There is some monument in Porto Antico, made in a form of raw block of stone with calligraphic inscriptions over it. I couldn't find any information regarding it so in case somebody knows what it is please let me know. Thanks.
Go on a superb Cruise!
Sometimes, cities are lucky enough to reinvent themselves. Genoa, given short shrift in travel guides 20 years ago, has undergone a striking renaissance since 1992, when it hosted an international expo to commemorate the 500-year anniversary of the discovery of the New World.
Nowhere is that benefit more evident than at Porto Antico, the old port close to the marine terminal, where many of today's cruise ships now dock. What once was a seedy waterfront on Northern Italy's Mediterranean is now a charming blend of old and new structures, featuring cafes, shops, a movie complex, a maritime museum, a spectacular play and cultural center for kids and, most importantly, the largest aquarium in Europe.

the habour area
The port of Genoa is the No.1 in Northern Italy.. more of industrial speaking.. the Habour area is a lovely place to spend sometime on a sunny afternoon.. be aware of Italian shops are normally closed in afternoon, from 1 to 3 o'clock. We found it was so in the old town area.. all the shops were shut down... except for some cafes or restaurants.. It was nice to spend these hours instead to hang around in the habour area .. nice view of the sea and hillside backwards...

360° panorama images from the harbour
Working in the harbour and beeing a photographer I occasionally take 360° panorama pictures inside the commercial ports from yachts and various ships. Since it's quite difficult for tourists to get, for example, on top of the crane of a containership, you can browse these panoramic pictures on our website www.panoviews.com (since they are working fullscreen in quicktime).

il bigo e la piazza delle feste
This strange structure in the Old Harbour, full of tentacles, is called il bigo - and sorry, I haven't got a clue of what it is - in italian or english. Piazza delle feste is a square where fairs are held. The architect of this, says the usual informer, is Renzo Piano

While in genoa it could be a good idea to go for a boat trip. You can choose the harbour, a round trip genoa, camogli, s.fruttuoso (look at the picture) & portofino or a longer one (genoa, camogli, s.fruttuoso, portofino & cinqueterre) but I suggest to spare a whole day for the cinqueterre.
