Having survived the wars is enough reason to see this Genoese landmark. The bomb went though the ceiling, but did not explode....someone must have said the rosery that day! The artwork and design in the church, like all Italian churches, is also a must see.
Here is a picture of the bomb.
This is probably the most beautiful street in Genova, along with Via Garibaldi. It has been recently restored and it's incredibly wonderful!
About half the way from the Palazzo Ducale to the harbour you can find the San Lorenzo cathedral, wonderful church made by black and white bricks. But all the buildings in Via San Lorenzo are wonderful, you have to keep your eyes up to enjoy them most!
I have seen many beautifull Cathedrals in Spain (Burgos, Barcelona, Zaragoza, etc.), but this one has its own special enchantment. It is hude inside. It´s decor is unique. We got to hear a bit if Mass and that too was an experience!
Then, walk aroung the Old City. It is incledoble, you will find a histic building everywhere, one after the other.
St. Laurence Cathedral
The Cathedral of Genoa consacrated from Pope Gelasio II in 1118 is dedicated to St. Laurence. Has a gothic front rich of polychromatic marbles, of decorative motives and of valuable sculptures and the interior naves contain marble statues and paintings of relevant value of the most known artist passed in Genoa: Very important to the historical point of view the visit to The Treasure Museum (Guided visit every half hour from Monday to Saturday 9.00-12.00 and 15.00-18.00) with very important masterpieces as the Ark of the procession of Corpus Christi (cent.XVI), the Ark of Barbarossa (cent.XII) and the Holy Basin in green glass (cent.XII)
Visit to San Lorenzo Church, probably the most important in the city! From Monday to Saturday guided visit 9/12-15/18. Last one 30 minutes before close it!
One of the most beautiful places that I visited, inside it's worthwhile!
The San Lorenzo cathedral in Genoa is one of the striking features of the city. Inside it is ver ornately decorated.
Beautiful Cathedral, music everywhere, enjoyed walking passed many many times! It least I knew I wasn't lost when I got there
This is the main cathedral of Genoa. Reminded me a bit on the duomo in Florence, but smaller. I liked it a lot, because it's a kind of architechture and style that not many churches have.
