Never trust to a fat guide!
Unique Suggestions: There are several things that will definitely spoil the impression of the journey, regardless of how attractive destination is. I personally do not like to encounter rain, fog, snow or poor guides in the case of group travel.
This time the weather conditions were almost perfect, but thanks to a very bad guide presented remained the impression that I have seen a lot less that it was planned.
Fun Alternatives: Can you imagine a tour operator who entrust a group of tourists to a guide who doesn't know the language of the country in which the greoup is traveling? (Btw, that tour operator has fallen in the meantime). Can you imagine a guide who does not adhere to the proposed travel program. To this lady the most important thing was to fill her huge belly and to collect extra fee from the restaurants in which we were led! To her it was more important that we roam the hills of Carrara and taste bacon prepared in a marble trough than to visit Rionaggiore or Manarola.

The huge fountain occupies central position in Piazza Ferrari and I remember it from my previous visit in January 1st 2001. It was cold with "bora" (blizzard) and yet the water was in function scattering and creating particularly attractive scenary of the square. This time I have visited Genova in September and it was beautiful sunny and pretty hot day, and yet the water was out of function.
I can't express how disappointed I was, all my expectations of making great pictures of the square crolled down. This magnificent square has taken a wretched and somber look to me.

You pay about 5 Euros for visiting the tiny biosfera, a green house in the form of a ball in the sea at the Harbour. Here you can visit exotic plants and see if you can detect a few exotic
animals from the tropics - all in all it takes you about 20 steps to walk around the biosfera.
Are 20 steps worth 5 Euros ? ...
Unique Suggestions: Make several rounds in the biosfera.
Fun Alternatives: Visit other parts in the Harbour where you would not have to pay so much.

Genoa is not yet a touristic place so you won't find tourist trap! Of course you'll find some 'not only for touristl trap' like poor restaurants and so on... but don't worry, as genoa is becoming a touristic site, I'm sure someone is thinking to organize some good trap and we'll soon have our beloved trap! Just wait a while! Actually we have the 'almost a trap': if you go to the acquarium, you'll see an 'ancient' sailing ship.... well she's not ancient at all... she's not a ship actually.... it's a movie set: roman polansky's 'PIRATES' with walter mattau... So, if you go and visit it don't expect to see a real ancient ship, but if you have (or are) children.... they'll enjoy the visit.
