Piazza Garibaldi, Monterosso al Mare
Just as many US towns and cities honor George Washington with a statue, Italians salute their own revolutionary hero Giuseppi Garibaldi.
Monterosso's Piazza Garibaldi is not large, but most inviting and restful, with a playground for the kiddies and plenty of shaded benches for their grandparents. Adjacent to the piazza is the municipio (city hall), brightly restored after a WWII bombing, and a short ways down the street is a sardine museum. Sounds interesting, but it was closed the day of our visit.
