This park has created a habitat for the typical plant life of the Riviera such as pine, ilex and palm trees but you can also find rare exotic trees. Within the park of Villa Serra there is the Gallery of Modern Art where you can admire a vast range of Ligurian art of the 19th and 20th centuries. Well represented are the works of Barabino.

Go to the big parco which stretches from the railway station nearly to Bogliasco and includes two villas which are museums.
Sit quietly and watch as every nonna in Nervi brings a kid with a plastic bag full of nuts and watch the bandit squirrels appear and catch the hazel nuts on the rebound.
It is as funny as a fight as they crouch with their bounty in their mouth and another nonna plus kid arrives with a bag of walnuts - and then another with a bag of peanuts. You can see it in their eyes. They begin to panic.
No wonder I was not a great success when I arrived really early with a plastic bag - they appeared - I made the throwing gesture they recognised but all I threw was disgusting apple and bruschetta. The squirrels shot up a tree, fixed me with their squirrelly eyes, vibrated their tails and said - chook chook chook chook.
As near as anything they were telling me to vaffanculo with my disgusting apple and bruschetta.
If the rustle of the plastic bag doesn't get them the kids tap two nuts together. Chonk chonk chonk. The sound echoes around the park. These are very well fed squirrels.
When this palls you might get lucky and see the old gent with the plastic bag give a citrus tree - they looked like little bitter oranges - a vigorous shake (after a furtive glance around) and collect the windfalls.
A twist to the games in the park is to sit quiet and still with your back against a tree until you hear the scratch of claws. A squirrel shinnies down the tree and pops his head around to check you out.

The walk ends all of a sudden at a private building and you have to turn around again...
...at the other end of the coastal promenade you will have a stair into the town of Nervi.
The total length of the promenade is about maybe 2 Km and on a clead day you may even see the coast of 5terre.
I made 5 terre a few days later and may highly recommend it to anyone :
Have a look on my Monterosso- and Vernazza-page !

All of the Ligurian coast had a great strategic importance and for this reason it had plenty of watch-towers searching for enemies approaching the coast.
Today they are mostly used for private homes.

the roseto is to see only pay attention that you are in the right period of the year for the blooming of roses ;-)...
and if you are asking why on hell I took a pic of this faded rose, it's because I owe it a kindness...

This is the small castello, that I saw at night from the train - it looks less spectacular at daylight, but you may imagine, what it was like to live on the coast in former times.
And be careful - the Lady from the travelagency is watching all of your steps ...
... and she is taking pics as well....
So keep an eye on her Nervi-page...
It is hopefully coming SOOOOOOON !! ??

all over the coast-walk you will find benches and these beautiful laterns, that actually attracted me to visit this lovely place, as the whole scenery looks really great at night.
Just be aware , that the last trains will leave rather early, in case that you live in a hotel west of Nervi

There are plenty of rocks that make it almost impossible to take a bath - and bathing is also forbidden by law because of the pollution of the water.
But they have small places - like here on the pic - where you may at least take a sunbath and have changing cabins.
In the background you see the coastline leading towards the Cinque terre and in the Middle of the pic the Rosary, that you may find under " Off the beaten path "

The path is mostly just a few meters wide and about 2 Km long.
And trees like this one you may see at many places. They were planted so plenty of years ago, and now they are getting much too big for the small garden and need to be fixed by strong iron-ropes !

After leaving the train at the station it was in fact not easy to find the right way down to the sidewalk along the beach...
But Chiara found it anyway, as a small path leading between lots of houses and gardens finally led to the beach

It's mid February, the sun is shining, it's warm enough to sit outside without a coat, no wonder so many Brits choose to live abroad!
