San Giorgio, Portofino
The interior of San Giorgio is nice , but not very special, in comparison with plenty of other churches in Liguria and Italy.
The church was almost completely destroyed in WW II and was reconstructed again afterwards.
This church is also quite a popular place for marriages !
San Giorgio is the small yellow church , that you will see rather close to the castle.
It will take about 10 minutes to walk up there and the square in front of the church offers a view of the bay just as well as a view over the mediteranean sea.
And on my pic you will see that the Mediteranean coastline with its solid and steep cliffs without beaches made a quick landing of enemies impossible.
This is the small graveyard , just behind the church of San Giorgio. I found it quite interesting to see, that most of the graves are built into small boxes of a high building, instead of beeing buried into the ground.
In my main picture: The statue in front is on the grave of one of the owners of the castle, I tried to store his name by taking a digital pic, but for some reason it is unreadable.
This is the view you get of Portofino-bay from the terrace of San Giorgio .
On a clear day you will be able to look untill Rapallo ( here on the right of the photograph)
