You could walk these narrow streets for hours....
And we did! Even though Portovenere is such a small little "fishing village", the maize of tiny little streets were something out of this world. Salmon and Apricot coloured buildings - washing hanging over your heads - cats absolutely everywhere and the sound of people getting together - THAT is Portovenere......

Tim and Imi in one of the narrow streets....
Just love this photo, so had to put it in also. As mentioned in a previous tip - the narrow streets of Portovenere are something truly special - especially the walk back down to the main harbour area from the Castello Doria - that is where this photo was taken.

The main street in Portovenere, Via Capellini - also known as Carugio - cuts through the town. It starts from the arched gateway by the harbour and runs uphill to la Chiesa San Pietro, a church built on the ruins of the Roman Temple of Venus, to which the town owes its name. The buildings on both sides of the narrow Via Capellini likely have not changed since medieval times and contain the town's main shops and businesses.
Narrow streets are interesting to walk along
The roads in the older part of town are very narrow and interesting. It is fun walking along them, window shopping. There are nice little coffee houses as well that you can stop in for a light refreshment.
The main street of the village is full of little souvenir shops and places where you can eat the typical 'focaccia'.
The coloured and tiny buildings, that you can find also in the Cinque Terre, are just adorable :-)
and also walk the back street I would advice as a must see activity, better if when most of the town is still aslept...
