Sestri Levante Things to Do

  • Baia delle Favole

Bay of Fables is a lively, animated bay boarded by a promenade with beautiful houses, and a beach where you can rent a beach chair or have a drink in one of the many beach bars. In the back you can see the narrow strip of land that divides this bay from Bay of Silence. The land between the two bays has a lot of vegetation and there is a...

  • Baia del Silenzio

Bay of Silence is a wonderful quiet romantic bay. It has a small boardwalk, but most of the houses come as far as the beach. It's a public beach where you will find many locals. In front of the boardwalk you'll find the typical boats called "gozzi", resting on the beach after a fishing trip. I liked this part of Sestri Levante the best.

  • Centre

Sestri Levante has a nice centre. Walk along the small alleys going from the bays towards the train station. They are lively and full of shops and places to eat or drink.

Look around, especially when wandering along the Bay of Fables, there are some beautiful buildings here.

  • Saint Maria of Nazareth church

From the outside, you don't have the impression that this church is so beautiful on the inside. I liked it very much. It's so different from other churches I have visited so far. There were many glass (crystal?) chandeliers and the church was decorated with lovely red flowers. To me the interior looked more like a festive room in one of the famous...

  • S. Anna rocks

This rocky promontory at the west end of Sestri Levante is a good place for rock climbing and snorkelling. The mountain drops abruptly into the sea and it can be tricky to arrive there on foot. There is a ruined church on top of the rocks (100 meters above) and a road tunnel close to the sea. Do not go there when the sea is rough as it can be...

  • The beach in Baia delle Favole

The main beach in Sestri Levante is on Baia delle Favole, and it is about 1 km long.In summer it is mostly partitioned between private establishments and public beach is limited in space. In my opinion it is much better in late spring or early fall.

This monastery dates back to 1688 and it is located in a fantastic location, a bit uphill on Baia del Silenzio, with stunning views on the bay.The convent is still active and there are a few monks "Cappuccini" living there, celebrating a public Mass every day. Visitors are welcome in the convent.

Sestri Levante Restaurants

  • Nice, relaxed, good food

Good local wine, try those that are not yet "DOC", just to get out of routine and take the risk of an extra-ordinary taste. Both main courses and seafood that we had were very well prepared, it's not useful to mention a special dish as they vary (as every serious restaurant should do) depending on the day and the season.

  • popular with the locals

After exploring Sestri Levante and laying out for a while, I had lunch at Polpo Mario. They have outdoor seating. Started with a seafood carpaccio followed by a seafood pasta dish. I shared my bottle of wine with a grandmother and granddaughter at the next table. When their secondo (main) came out - a huge seafood platter - they insisted (ancora,...

  • Narrow alleys

Just another lovely view of the narrow alleys around the Bay area. The houses are all so lovely painted in different pastel colours. This is typical for the whole Liguria Coast area.

I suggest you to stop at one of those typical Italian pastry shops. They sell very delicious fresh-made cookies.
