Things to Do

The View

The View, Varazze

Aurorae Says:  Take a walk along one of the roads above the sea, there are different elevation levels where you can stroll and enjoy the landscape views. Far in the back you can see Genova!

Scuba Diving

Scuba Diving, Varazze

Aurorae Says:  Go snorkeling or scuba diving, there is a plenty of underwater world to explore. Some people were coming back with incredibly beautiful shells! it's especially interesting in the rocks area, on the sandy beaches not as much.

Beach, of course

Beach, of course, Varazze

Aurorae Says:  The main purpose for coming to Varazze and the surrounding areas on the riviera is the seaside leisure. Varazze itself is perhaps not the best beach resort, since the beach is in the center and overcrowded, but maybe someone likes that? I preferred less populated the beaches...

On all of the organized beaches, there are restaurants/bars where you can have a snack, drink or lunch. This one is a domestic cuisine mini restaurant, with not big choice of dishes, mostly pasta and fried fish/sea food, as well as italian specialties like prosciutto ham with melon (odd combination I never heard of before!)
It's a real beach atmosphere and it's not expensive, but it's a problem to find the table during the lunch hour!
The view on the sea and beach is lovely!

Parking in Varazze is the nastiest thing you can imagine! There are absolutely NO parking places, in the high season of course, and you are condamned to either walk for miles after you've parked outside of town, or, circulate around the town hoping to get lucky. Maybe someone in front of you just decides to leave?!
If you park along the main road before the town, you can at least enjoy the nice view.

Sea

Sea, Varazze

Aurorae Says:  The water is VERY clean, however, it's not too transparent. Strong waves make it a bit murky, especially in the sand beach areas. At the rocks and pebbled beaches it's not so blurry, but it's not as clear and transparent as I would like... However, it's impeccably clean, no...

The Beach

The Beach, Varazze

Aurorae Says:  This was one of my favourite beaches. It's somewhere along the shore, a hidden little cove, you can descend only from the main road, a bit of mountain climbing (in the descendng version), but it's worth it. It's not overcrowded and touristy as the town beaches and the other...

Sunsets

Sunsets, Varazze

Aurorae Says:  There are lovely sunsets, be sure to stay one day at the beach until the sun goes down, don't rush back to hotel or dinner, enjoy some peaceful moments of crimson...

Rocks

Rocks, Varazze

Aurorae Says:  Beware of rocks! They are everywhere, and often you can't notce them as they're under the surface. If you're swimming randomly, take extra care, especially when there are waves, they can throw you on the rocks and you might get hurt... Now, if I think better, this was...

Wild Seas

Wild Seas, Varazze

Aurorae Says:  Most of the time there are powerful winds in Liguria, and lots of waves. The wind makes the stay in the sun easier, as the heat is not burning your head (or, at least you don't notice it), but it can be quite annoying. Swimming in the waves is fun, but maybe at some point...

Green Sea!!!

Green Sea!!!, Varazze

Aurorae Says:  In the Varazze area, at many points the sea is GREEN! Yes! It was quite surprising and confusing, but truly beautiful! It has this greenish allure, in all shades, and as you change your position, the colour changes, like the dots in kaleidoscope...

"Open Sea"

"Open Sea", Varazze

Aurorae Says:  I don't know what's the word for "open sea" in English, where you see no land, and when the sea and sky join at the point of horizon. Well, in Liguria you can see that everywhere, the coast is very straight, not curved and without bays and coves. It's Ligurian sea, a little...
