Things to Do

The View

The View, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  Climb the hills above Varigotti and enjoy a spectacular view on Ligurian riviera! Do not miss villages along the way, like Le Manie for example.

Legoland

Legoland, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  Sometimes Varigotti reminds me of Legoland, or any similar kid's dice constructed town! It's so cute and colourful, one might think it's a maquette if looking at photos only.

Ancor

Ancor, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  On the way to the castle, at the promenade near the pier, there is a big chained ancor. It's a sort of a monument to Varigotti sailors.

Shadows And Corners

Shadows And Corners, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  Be there in the late afternoon and observe the shades and colours of the late afternoon sun and sunset. You'll discover many lovely details.

Sailing

Sailing, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  Sailing is on in entire Liguria and thus Varigotti as well, all year round. Scenery is always idyllic, no matter which time of the year - a sailboat on the open blue sea.

Bright Colours

Bright Colours, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  Note the bright, cheerful colours of facades, and originally shaped houses. Feel free to take a peek through the front yard or fence, or even stairways and passages.

Varigotti castle

Varigotti castle, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  I don't know if this is the real name of the castle, but anyway. it's situated on the hill above Varigotti, overlooking the coast and town. It dates back from medieval era.

Local Customs

Romantic

Romantic, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  Is there a better daytime date at the seaside in winter than sitting by the sea, enjoying the view, absorbing the sunrays and chit chatting?

Playing

Playing, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  In spite of the winter time, some boys were playing in the sand as if it was the summer. Splashing the water, stepping into it barefoot, making sand castles... Parents were probably those sleeping on the beach in the previous tip.

Sleepers

Sleepers, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  Some are even sleeping comfortably on the sand, barefoot, on a sunny but chilly February day!

Favorites

Moon walking

Moon walking, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  Go out on the full moon nights. Full stop.

Sea and Sand

Sea and Sand, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  The sea is very clear, sand is quite bulky and greyish, but there are also pebbles, so everyone can find what they want. The beach is spacious and stretches oput for kilometers!

Yellow, Red and Green

Yellow, Red and Green, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  Three dominant colours in Varigotti are Red, Yellow and Green, and they get mixed in contrasts. Houses do not havemany doors or windows, and the outlook is effective with bright colour contrasts.

Sea gulls

Sea gulls, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  The most gracious inhabitants are sea gulls. I really envy them for their hedonism ;) and the ability to swim even in winter! :)

Cacti

Cacti, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  The foliage is pretty dry in Varigotti, there is no lush green Mediterranean vegetation, only some palms here and there, but there are some cacti as well! Most of the houses had some exhibited!

Deserted

Deserted, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  In spite of people wandering around and chillin' out on the beach and main promenade, all of the houses were closed, window curtains rolled down and there was no trace of life inside, nor outside, nobody was coming and going! So I wonder, where did all those people come...

Pink & Wheels

Pink & Wheels, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  The scenery of Varigotti is very picturesque. With intense colour, you'll find traces of almost instant activity, as if someone was woring there in the daily routine and just had gone away for a break. Wheels, tools and other signs of activity are ubiquitous.

Lemon Trees

Lemon Trees, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  In Varigotti you'll easily find lots of agrumi trees, most of all lemons. If you want to "pick pocket" the tree owners, be sure to be there in winter time, when the yields are getting ripe!

Palm trees

Palm trees, Varigotti

Aurorae Says:  Of course, palm trees are everywhere in abundance in Verigotti! But they are best placed in tiny little squares within the colourful walls.

Varigotti is a very unusual place, not in a typical Italian coastal style. It's rather oriental, sort of Arabic in a way, but even Mexican, with bright colours and pueblo alike architecture. It...
