Go out to the Vernazza jetty

I love the town of Vernazza and think the one of the best photo ops are shot from the jetty... Its also a great place to sit down, relax and enjoy the views... Heck add a bottle of wine, cheese and foccassia it will be a memory of a lifetime. Great at sundown! Enjoy!

    Local Felines

by lamentforicarus Written Apr 9, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Walking around the villages of the Cinque Terre, notice the obsession with the local cats! Dozens of these domestic cats can be seen dozing in fishing boats, lounging on stoops, Scampering in and out of the pastel buildings, and even along the rocky coastal trails. The locals have discovered how to cash in on these felines, with wooden figurines and stenciled T-shirts available in several soveigner shops.

The best beach of the Cinque Terre you can find at Vernazza.

Vernazza can be reached in the summer by the motor-boat services from Versilllia, Lerici, Porto Venere and other places along the Riviera of Levant.

    don't expect a huge place

Vernazza is a very small though charming village.
one street leads you from the railway station to the beach and the small square.
I loved the trees in bloom and the laundry hanging out on the clothes lines.

    Vernazza

by MATIM Written Sep 29, 2004

After walking from Riomaggiore to Manarola, to Corniglia at the Via dell Amore,
And climb 300 stairs to the small village of Corniglia we where exhausted from all the walking we did that day at the cinque terre.
So we decide to take the train at Corniglia to the next village Vernazza.

Now I am a bit sorry we didn't walk because I read that the walking path from Corniglia to Vernazza is the best part.
Is more beauty then we already saw still possible?

    Sunset in Vernazza

    by sue_stone Updated Aug 2, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The sunsets in Vernazza are spectacular.

The best way to enjoy them is to take at seat at one of the bars/restaurants by the harbour and relax.

Sip your chianti and toast to the beauty of the Cinque Terre.

    Magnificent!

    The Tuesday Morning Market

by lamentforicarus Written Jul 23, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you happen to be in Vernazza on a Tuesday, wake early and head down to the harbor to watch the local market. Here, items of everyday use are brought in from neighboring towns by truck and set up on long tables. Note that many of these locals have been shopping here their whole life, and have never shopped in the supermarkets and grocery stores found in cities.

    The Fishermens' Boats

by lamentforicarus Written Jul 23, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Many residents of the Cinque Terre earn income through sardine fishing. For a chance to experience the "local flavor" walk down to the harbor late in the evening, when the fishermen are preparing their nets. At night, they shine lights in the water to lure fish to the surface, catching them in large nets. The fish are sold in restaurants and markets the following day.

Relax and enjoy the beauty of Vernazza

by jjkent Written Nov 23, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The best thing to do in Vernazza is....nothing! Relax on the small beach. Watch the surf crashing on the breakwater. Have a glass of beer and wine on the patio of a cafe. Watch the sun set over the Mediterranean. Look at the quant & rustic beauty of Vernazza.

Then get motivated and start sweating on the trail to Monterosso!

Everytime when I am in Italy I notice the Italians hang out their laundry at a very special way, the clotheslines are under the windows, like you see at this picture.

The best way to see the cities is to walk. The trail can get slightly rocky so be prepared but otherwise it's an easy walk.
