From Citta Alta, you can go even higher. Go to Colle Aperto, following Via Colleoni and going out of the city walls and take the other funicular to San Vigilio hill. There are delitghtful strolls you can make round there. At the funicular ticket office you will be able to find leaflets about itineraries on the area. You have great views of Bergamo Alta assured.

Of course you must visit Via Colleoni, and the Piazza Vechia in Bergamo Alta. But perhaps the better advice I can give you is that you wander around and you will be able to discover a lot of delicious villas, most of them almost hidden for a hurried tourist. This one in the photo is near one of the main entrances of Bergamo walls.

Cassiglio is a small, pleasant village (100 people) about 40 kms far from Bergamo, in the wild Brembana Valley.
This place is worth for two things: the small lake surrounded by unspoilt Dolomites-like mountains and the weird MIlesi house, painted with funny images of a death dance.

Clusone is just a fascinating village, laying in the large Seriana Valley, some 30 kms from Bergamo. This 8,000 people village is simply a small treasure. It boasts art (The famous Death dance frescoes on the Oratory), nature and fine food. Get lost in its narrow street and enjoy the fresh air coming from the Alps that surround it. To reach it, take bus E15 from the bus platform opposite the train station (one hour trip):

This small rounded church lies in Almenno, a village close to Bergamo (just 9 kms West). You can reach it by driving on the SS470 or taking bus number E5 from the platform near the train station.
The site is surrounded by a placid rural setting. This stone Church dates back to the XI Century and it is enriched by some precious carvings on the external vaults.

San Tomè is a little round churche built in XII century. It's really stunning, you can smell the ancient perfume of the middle age.
It's near the village called Almenno San Salvatore

Crespi" is the name of a family of cotton manufacturers from Lombardy. This family realized an "ideal workers' village" nearby their factory, along the Adda river.
The Village of Crespi d'Adda is an entire town, built from nothing by the owner of the factory for his workers and their families.
In this perfect little world the master "reigned" from his castle and, like a caring father, satisfied all needs of his employees.
Only those who worked in the factory could live in the Village, and the life of everybody was connected to the factory, its rhythms and its dema

Cornello is a wonder. It's a small village in the Brembo valley (around 35 kms from Bergamo) where all the motorized vehicles are banned. Cornello was the birthplace of one famous italian family: the Tasso, to whom belonged the illustrous poet Torquato and the founder of the modern express postal delivery service named 'Thurn und Taxis' under the sacred empire. Then, the modern 'taxi' name originates from the Tasso family.

This wonderful monastery is located in the western part of the city of Bergamo, near the street that reached Valbrembo. It's a magnific place deepened in the countryside, though it needs urgent restoration as it has been forgotten in the last 10 years.
The monastery used to be a relevant religious site since the XIII century.
