This is a small restaurant but it's one of my favourite restaurants in my town. It has also some tables on a terrace with a breathtaking belvedere on the flat. It can be very romantic, with the right company of course!
My favourite dishes in this restaurant are: "casoncelli", typical ravioli from Bergamo, with bacon and melted butter "foiade", another typical kind of pasta, fery often served with "porcini" mushrooms. In my opionion you should taste "valcalepio" wine, typical from this part of italy. Main entrance by hojasdehierba Another place in Bergamo Bassa. More than 200 types of pizza, forming several different types: spicy, calzonne, cheese... It would be strange that you couldn't find one that would fit you. They also have some other dishes, but the place were crowded with locals and most of then ordered pizzas, as we did. The only problem was that menu was only in Italian and we spent a long time trying to guess what the ingredients really were. We liked it and it was cheap.

At the lovely Citta Alta in Bergamo, this place proved to be a good choice for dining. Delicious pizzas, nice polenta taragna, a surprising and tasty pasta made with chesnut flour and, as a dessert, the usual tiramisu (I love it and hardly ever order another dessert in Italy). Wide wine menu, we chose a Trentino Cabernet and liked it. The have a dining room in the main floor, but we had our dinner in the cellar, which is more romantic and suggestive. Good service.
Buen servicio. Of course, being, dining, staying or simply walking at Citta Alta in Bergamo has an special flavour that no place at Citta Bassa has. However, we found a couple of nice ristorantes in Bassa which reach a really good standard. La Bruschetta is decorated in a traditional way, as it is located in a kind of crypt. Prices are lower than in Citta Alta and it might be convenient to eat at this area if you have just finished your shopping or if, like we were, you are staying in one of the nearby hotels. The four of us ordered pasta in different styles (lasagna, cazoncelli, a bergamasque speciality, very similar to ravioli, and tagliatelli) and all of us were satisfied. They also offer a good variety of meats and risottos. Don't forget to order an Italian wine (I suggest a Trentino Cabernet, but anyone will be fine)
No olvideis pedir un vino italiano (os recomiendo un Cabernet del Trentino, pero cualquiera estara bueno). this is a cheap and nice restaurant where i often go with my friends. You can have mainly beef. Note that you CAN'T RESERVE A TABLE in advance, you have to go there, ask for a table and then wait. They're kind and will call you by phone when the table is ready so in the meantime you can go in a near bar and have an apetizer.
any kind of beef they cook

al vecchio tagliere by barrikello Al Vecchio Tagliere (literally 'At the old chopping board') is a wonderful wine bar and restaurant at the feet of the walled town. It's located in a private tiny piazza dedicated to the most famous Bergamasco sculptor 'Manzù'. It's a tiny cozy place where to have an aperitivo or taste a 'tagliere' - woodden chopping board covered with local cheese, salami or polenta.
Cheese tagliere - I love cheese and especially the mountain ones. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Via S.Alessandro, 13Phone: 035244725

Bergamo is a University town. At lunchtime, the streets were full of groups of lively students - many appeared to be going for the world record of 'How many students can you cram into a bakery'? Well, the usual advise for travelers is to 'Eat where the locals eat' and knowing that students tend to find the cheaper places to eat, this looked like a good place to try I joined the orderly queue, (hoping that I wouldn't faint from hunger or the heat from the ovens before I could be served). The 2 women serving, efficiently processed the orders. After selecting your choice (I chose one with an olive topping),one of the assistants guesses at the size of portion, you then indicate more or less. The pizza is then weighed and a receipt is issued. My portion cost 2.40 euros. This was placed in an oven to warm through. Then it was slipped onto a cardboard tray, and cut into smaller squares, which could easily be eaten with the fork provided. You hand over your receipt with your money. Mmmm! delicious Pizza! There wasn't anywhere to sit outside, so I wandered down the street until I found a bollard to sit on. It was a pleasant surprise to see very little litter on the streets, despite so many people eating on the street. There are plenty of bins around.
Freshly baked pizza-Mmmmm! A cheap lunch for me, eaten al fresco! I wish that you could capture aromas as easily as photographs, to remember and to share with people! The smell (which I think was vanilla), wafted into the street. (Later that night, I walked past when the shop was closed, and could still enjoy the fragrance!) Looking at the display of pastries in the window, I kept changing my mind, each looked equally delicious. I was still deciding which to have, when I entered the shop. On the counter was a selection of trays with different pizzas - OK, forget the pastries (for now), which Pizza to have? I selected one with a salami topping. This was popped into an oven for a few minutes, then handed to me, with paper napkins. (2 euros for a generous sized slab) There are tables inside to stand at, which I did. Vending machine inside sells hot drinks for 80 cents. I returned the next morning for a breakfast of a pastry with vanilla cream (1 euro), which was delicious, as was the coffee! (80 cents) While I was in the shop, there was a steady stream of locals buying bread and cakes, and tourists pointing to their selected treats. In the window was a display of yellow cakes advertised as a speciality of Bergamo - made of polenta - Along the street, I spotted similar cakes of different sizes. (Please see my Local Customs tips for more info)
My pizza slice was delicious, hot and tasty! The pastries and coffee were also delicious. I'll certainly come back here! If you don’t want to spend a lot of money and you don’t want to eat a piece of pizza or a sandwich you can go to the Circoletto. During the meal in summer you can enjoy also a beautiful view. I and my aunt had lunch here and for two plates of pasta, a coffee and a bottle of water we had spent only 9 €. Theme: LocalComparison: about average
