We came here, because someone told us,that we should. She was right! The view was amazing-too bad that we hadn´t booked a table, and didn´t get to sit next to big windows or at balcony. If you book before,I suggest to take table close to railing at ground-floor.We sat at"cellar",and didn´t see as far.Photos of the view are taken standing, not from our table.
There was only coupple of restaurants at highest top,so it´s quite easy to find.
Favorite Dish: We had calzone, and asked for garlic-and we really got it!Yammy! There was garlic in slices not crushed-inside the pizza.Very good. They also had vetr good red beer-Moretti Rosso or close to that name.Funny though, that they asked twice,do we really want red beer!
We also had "mousse al cioccolato",witch was good, too.
One minus-thing there was:We had bread in our bill, even if they didn´t bring it to us.(it´s not legal anymore-before it was usual)And we were so hungry(we had eaten allmost nothing that day)that we´d love to have that bread

We didn´t feel like for a pizza, and they had more options for that than many others.Place looked nice, had tables outside( I WON´T eat inside in summer!)and had a lot of locals in.As you all know-it´s a good sign!
Favorite Dish: I had veal milanese and my husband had tagliata manzo, witch was thin slices of beef filet, with parmesan. It also looked goodHe likes his beef well-done,and said, that it was little too red for him,but othervice very good.I tasted the red part,it was good.We also had 1L of house white wine and liked it.All together, with big bottle of water and bread was 42e.Not bad-at least if you are Finnish.Allthough we ate for much less at Milan and Rome at same trip.
Pias seemed good, and pastas also when coming to neighbour-table.

6.30 in the evening in Bergamo and I desperately needed to eat and rest. Walked back up Via Gombito, (my favourite street in Bergamo)and discovered that the quaint little sweet and cake shop that I'd admired earlier, had a cafe as well. All on my own here until four local women came in and smiled encouragingly at me as I tried and failed to get my mouth around the massive Tosta Rusticana I'd ordered.
After this, the owner gave me a guided tour of all his mouthwatering creations and I chose the last one on the display, hazelnut, white chocolate and orange. This was served with a cold vanilla sauce and a scoop of gelato in a wafer cup. When the owner realised that I was Irish, a little present of two extra pastries, magically appeared on the table. This personal and friendly service in such pretty surroundings was an unexpected treat and I would highly recommend this small but very friendly cafe, to all travellers.
Favorite Dish: The most filling thing I could order here was the Tosta Rusticana which consisted of massive amounts of proscuitto, buffalo mozzarella and tomato on a lightly toasted, very large triangular ciabatta roll. This was really substantial and very tasty. Only problem was getting my mouth around it and eventually I had to deconstruct it to actually eat it. The hazelnut, chocolate and orange cake was superb and the crockery was oldfashioned and pretty. I especially liked the ceremony with which my simple cup of coffee was served. See photos.

Traditional Bergamo Trattoria with a family flava, on the main street of Bergamo Alta.
Favorite Dish: Tray Polenta Taragna: in Bergamo they prepare polenta with Branzi Cheese (local cheese), in the Bergamasco Valley the polenta Taragna is made with grano saraceno and seems 'green'.
WE tried a combinations of special dishes in a gret offer:
Polenta taragna
Polenta
Mushrum in Bergamo way
Rabbit stewed
Chicken in sauce
All for 15 euro
and a Casunzei dishes ( pasta filled with meat on a sauce of parmisa and bacon chop)
Too much for only one person! We shared the 2 dishes and we was full!

by far the best food in bergamo can be found here, the waiters are knowledgeable and helpful and speak very good English (about the only place in town!) i would say this place is equivalent to a Michelin 1 star but for comparatively fair prices
its location is beautiful too right by the san viglio funicular.
N.B. i have been there 5 times and 4 times it was fully booked so try booking in advance
a 3 course meal for two with wine costs about £80 sterling about $140 USD
p.s. went in for a drink on our latest trip
see below for the selection of bar snacks the waiter gave us for nothing ,ok its 1 euro a beer more expensive here but you get what you pay for
enjoy
Favorite Dish: everything here was gorgeous ,but if forced i would say the lobster ravioli, historic to say the least

what can be said about da mimmos?
antonio carlucci recommended it,and i would wholeheartedly do the same
it has been in the same family since 1956 and the building dates back to 1357
as soon as you walk in you are hit by sheer elegance of the place, and also the quality of the cooking
as we were led to our table we noticed an eclectic mix of diners
young couples,families,birthday groups
the food was spot on and considering everything not over expensive
not a budget place but definitely worth a visit
Favorite Dish: pizza romana
olives anchovies tomatoes and capers
delicious
also the casoncelli, ravioli stuffed with sausage meat sage and butter
delicious but no good for my waist line ;-)
p.s went back in april and had a great meal ,that was a little dissapointing when i mentioned the t-bone steak was poor, the waiter said "i will tell the chef"
a shame really because everything else was perfect ,but this poor response left a bitter taste for me
the strong euro makes it a special treat to eat here now ,with a lot of mains costing around £12-15 which is expensive for bergamo
all in all though very good

a quality little find, the owner aldo speaks good english and him and his wife teresa and her mum are very hospitable and helpful
we stay across the road and we often nip in when in bergamo,it often feels like you are in someones house the atmosphere is that friendly, like a lot of small backstreet places it can be quiet but for a real taste of italian life go here
red wine is 3.50 euro for a carafe, very reasonable ,and they let my daughter help out behind the bar (pretending too but she loves it)
highly recommended
Favorite Dish: buffalo mozzarella romana pizza with rocket on top
really really good ,cooked in their wood fired pizza oven as shown below
delicious!

great restaurant at the top of the castle in san viglio
we went there on a sunday and it filled up in no time with milanese out for the weekend
the food was ok but the views were stunning
i had ravioli with walnuts but it came laced in double cream bit rich
but overall it was nice
the staff's english was as limited as my italian
p.s. went there in mid april 08 and it looked shut, maybe it just opens in the summer
Favorite Dish: parma ham and melon, also mixed antipasta (pictured)

Very informal cafe which seems to serve food all afternoon, pasta and panini and gelati rather than a full menu. We had delcious crepes in here one afternoon when we decided we were too late for lunch and too close to dinner to eat 2 or 3 courses
Favorite Dish: The crepes

Just as we entered the square in the Upper Town, we spotted what looked to be an attractive typical Italian restaurant and decided to give it a try.
The meal we chose consisted of 1 x beef with mashed potatoes and 1 x omelette with chips.
The service was slow and the dishes were quite unattractive. Each was accompanied by a single of piece of "undressed" lettuce.
With a bottle of coke and 1/2 litre of house wine, the bill came to 25.50 euros.
Not one I'd recommend
Favorite Dish: N/A
