 | Bergamo Tourist Traps | Tips 1 - 10 of 10 | | Well, some people have complained about the excessive price of taxis. Be aware that some people may offer you a hike without being authorized and that some others are authorized but come from Milano.
Just use the taxis bearing the "Bergamo" sign displayed. Bear in mind that a normal trip from the airport to the downtown should cost 15 Euros during the day and not more than 20 in the night. From the train station to the old town, not more than 12 Euros..
Remember that you can take advantage of the shuttle bus from the airport to the town from 5 am to 11 pm every day. The local bus service runs generally from 6 am to 10,30 pm. Leave a Comment

When we arrived at Bergamo it was late. We got through the airport and walked to a taxi outside. It was eight minutes to midnight. We told the taxi driver we wanted the Jolly Hotel but he wouldn't let us get into the cab and told us to wait a minute and he would get another taxi for us. At first I thought that he didn't want to take us because the hotel was too near and he wanted a better fare. A second taxi arrived and there was a lot of Italian chatter but he wouldn't let us get in either. He kept saying "just one minute". Anyway to cut a long story short when it was turned midnight we were told to get in the cab and he said it was a fixed fare of 15 euros. I think this only applies after midnight though because when we were going back to the airport at the end of our trip the taxi from the hostel to the airport which is further cost only 13.50 euros.
Our second encounter with the taxi drivers was on our last full day when we handed back our rental car to the hire company and took the train to Milan. When we got back to Bergamo we got in a taxi outside the station and asked to go to the Hostel. He grinned to his buddies through the window and said to them "The Ostello" and they had a little laugh. I knew right away what was going to happen. Sure enough he took us the long way round and the fare was nearly 14 euro. We had been driving around Bergamo for 4 days in our hire car and we knew exactly the quickest way to go. Of course when you try to confront him he speaks no English. Be Warned!! Leave a Comment

This dish is sold as the popular Bergamo's one, thing not true it's just an invented story to sell some more, to tell the truth I cannot even say if it's good cause, after I tasted the porro cake, I did not want to taste anything else! Leave a Comment

One thing to watch out for in Italy is eating too much! Italians seem to believe that every meal should consist of at least 4 courses of food! Leave a Comment

There are not much traps for tourist: usually you have to taxi only if it's indispensable because it's too expensive; pay attention if you want to dine well you have to arrive at restaurant in 9:30 PM . Little traps for a great town! Leave a Comment

Bergamo is not so touristic oriented so there are not so many traps; even if you go outside the town borders (along the valleys) where tourism is important I couldn't imagine any specific traps you could fall in ... and in the very heart of the city you surely pay more for a coffee than somewhere else but never the quadruple like it happens in Milan !

No, no, no, noooooooooooooo ... there is no reason to eat in such an awful place, skip it, go away, forget about it, McDOnalds is by far better than this ugly, dirty, nonsense place. Believe me: do not go there.

at the hand baggage check they take any drinks off of you,but then once you get through to the gates your are welcome to but soft drinks for 3 euro and wine and ice cream for extortionate amounts. they are taking a liberty as they have a captive audience.
drink loads of fluid before you go to the airport, also if you are buying fags buy them in the magazine shop in the airport building,if you are from the EU you cannot buy any duty free fags Leave a Comment
