by Mahieu The Citta Alta is such a nice area that walking is actually the only option to discover it. Wandering through the narrow streets, discovering nice little squares or beautiful views: this is how you can best enjoy the beautiful city of Bergamo! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by Mahieu There are two funiculars. The first one goes from lower town ( viale Vittorio Emmanuele) to the Citta Alta ( Piazza Mercato della Scarpe) The second one goes from the Porta San Alessandro to San Vigilio. You can buy a day-ticket, that allows you to take both funiculars as many times as you want. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by Mahieu You can catch the bus for 0,95 € from the Orio Al Serio airport to the lower town of Bergamo, until the bus station. From there on, you can easily walk to the funicular to get you to the upper town. (it's always straight ahead) Another option is taking a second bus to get you into upper town. Our local service is quite frequent but subject to unavailability during the night. Some local lines even stop at 9 pm and start not before 7 am, thus creating big problems to night travelers. During holidays and Sundays the service is rare (one bus every 40 - 50 minutes) and sometimes unreliable. The price for a single ticket is 0.95 Euros; you can buy a 10 runs carnet at the price of 7.20 Euros. The surroundings are linked by "SAB" company, with bus leaving from opposite the train station. This company is quite good and it serves almost every village in the area. Leave a Comment

The “Stadio atleti azzuri d’Italia” is close to the center, and it’s really a nice walk from the trainstation. Problem is to find the right way, so if it’s the first time in Bergamo I suggest that you take the bus from the station instead, leaving you close to the stadium in just 7-8 minutes. By foot it will take around 20-25 minutes. Say 30 if you walk a bit slower. Ask someone for directions, and you won’t probably have any trouble to find it. There are trains to and from Milano every hour, and there is also a bus-shuttle leaving close from the station that goes to Milano every hour, at least. By car it’s the same as always in Italy. When you get into the town you’ll soon find the signs with “stadio” written on them, with a football written beside. Just follow them. There might be some problems to find parking close to the stadium, but if you’re there early it shouldn’t be a problem. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

here you can find the map of the buses in the town: http://www.atb.bergamo.it/sito2005/Cartinalinee2006.pdf the bus company's site is http://www.atb.bergamo.it but unfortunately it's only in italian. Even if buses in Bergamo aren't so cheap, it's quite impossible to park in the "città alta", so if you plan to visit it, you can choose between buses and your own legs. You can also buy a daily ticket for 2,5 euros or a 3 days ticket.

la funicolare by barrikello The funicolar is the best way to reach the old town (cittý alta), allowing the tourists a fast access to it and the old town not to be submerged by cars. It does not do any stop. The funicular was built in the year 1886 and it has a length of 230 meters, climbing 83 meters of height (about 40% gradient). From the cabin it's possible to enjoy the beauty of the modern town lying on the plain and, with a very bright day, the sight extends untill MIlan and the Alps. The ticket costs 0.95 euros and it's possible to use the same ticket used to reach the lower station (through bus number 1). Leave a Comment Theme: Other

The 2 centres of Bergamo -Citta Alta, the upper town and the lower town of Citta Bassa, have been linked by a funicular railway since 1887. This has been modernized many times over the years. In 1912 another Funicular was built to link Citta Alta and the hill of San Viglio. From 1976 to 1991, this service was closed. Initially, this was for renovation and safety works. As the works proved to be so expensive, the service was closed, but later the city council and ATB invested in the service. The atb (Azienda Trasporti Bergamo) company runs the service. Tickets are available from the ATB point in Largo Porta Nuova, and the Funicular stations. A single ticket is 1.50 euros, a daily ticket Tariff G gives unlimited travel on the funiculars and all ATB urban bus services. I purchased the 3 day Tariff S ticket for 5 euros. As well as unlimited use on the funiculars and buses, it included the Airport bus service. As my hostel was near to the Citta Alta Funicular station on Viale Vittorio Emanuele 11, I used the funicular service many times during my stay. I'm afraid that I didn't get to use the San Viglio funicular, hopefully I'll visit again and will use it. The Citta Alta funicular runs from 0700 - 2400 hrs. Trains run approximately every 7 minutes, and the journey takes less than 5 minutes. Each carriage holds up to 50 passengers. There are 2 carriages on the 2 rail lines. There are great views over the city on the journey, as well as sneaky peeps into the gardens of some of the grandest houses. To reach the other funicular station: pass through the main square, keeping the Sansovino library on your right, follow the straight street right through town until the gate at the end , and the funicular is on the square on the other side of the gate. goes from the Porta San Alessandro to San Vigilio. It is a very short ride, and from the San Vigilio church you have very nice views! Theme: Train

airport bus info point by suvanki Atb ( Azienda Trasporti Bergamo) bus number 1 (Aerporto) leaves Orio al Serio airport every 30 minutes. It takes about 10-15 minutes to reach Bergamos train station, before continuing into the lower town (Bergamo Bassa) and the Porta Nuova area, the Funicolare station (The Funicular that links the lower and Upper (Citta Alta) towns, and then to the upper town. Tickets can be purchased from the airport, the bus station and ticket machines. These must be validated on the bus. Tickets aren't sold on the bus I purchased a ticket to take me to the Funicolare, as this was near to my hostel. It cost me 1 euro and was valid for 90 minutes. I understand that this includes a trip on the funicular if taken within the time span. I later purchased a 3 day ticket for 5 Euros, which gave unlimited use of all the buses, the funiculars and the airport bus. The buses run 0600 - midnight.
