I wanted to visit the castle and chose the way from the old town walking the way along the Via del Castello. Until this point everything was OK with the exception that the street was quite lonely. Just when I took the footpath to the castle, I noticed some strange looking people. Also, this was no problem – I am not the best looking either :) But it becomes a problem when these people are selling and consuming hard drugs. After I saw that there were more and more of these people around every corner, I decided to go back into the old town and not to visit the castle.
These scenes are normal in some parks of the big cities during nighttime, in Brescia it was 4 o’ clock in the afternoon.
There’s probably a good way to get up to the castle. The way along the Via del Castello, coming from the west, is surely not among them.
Those who understand some italian, can get some information about the castle itself via the link below.
Even if I really like the Brescia-supporters I can’t only give them credit. Some parts of them have a mentality of “kick first – ask then”, which means that if they suspect that you’re a supporter of the other team, they might be quite unfriendly, even without knowing for sure.
Specially when they meet Atalanta, Juventus, Roma or Inter it is like this.
Best way to not getting attacked is to buy a cheap Brescia-shirt or scarve outside the stadium, and you should be fine.
The biggest highrisk-game is the derby against Atalanta from Bergamo. Other enemies are Juventus, Verona, Inter, Roma, Lazio and Modena.
Their biggest friend is Milan, but also low-ranked Mantova has a friendship with Brescia. One of the groups from French side St Etienne has a longterm-friendship with the Brescia-curva.
I find this bit of Brescia quite threatening, especially if you're alone and female. Beware of the drunks lying in the bus stop! And avoid the kebab shop a street along from the bus station too... unless you want to be leered at.
About 30 km before Trieste the traffic was so intense that I barraly moved. Nearby Duino I had to stop waiting more then 8 hours to pass no more then 5 kilometers.
Under no circumstances DO NOT travel on July 31, and August 1st and 2nd. Vice versa, do not travel on August 24 coz all these people is moveing back home.
In case you'll travel at that time, make sure you have enough water supply in your car and something to eat!
Most of the times you feel very confortable when traveling by car, because you don't have to follow the timetables and you can stop anytime and anywhere you want. Sometimes, however, isn't so, a pleasent journey can be turned into the real nightmare.
I 've start my way back home on July 31st hoping to avoid massmovement of the Italians from notrhern Italian cities towards seaside destinations in Italy and nearby countries. Well, I was very wrong about it. Instead of making it in two hours, as usual, I've traveled several hours from Venice to Trieste.
