Cernobbio Things to Do

  • Boat Station

Don't you think it's lovely? :-) It doesn't look like a local transportation stop at all! This lovely boat station is on the "famous" square I mentioned so many times, with the moneument, restaurant, etc...There is a waiting house in case of a wind and cold. :-)

  • The "Castle"

When you're leaving Cernobbio there is a castle on the hill under which the road is passing. I know nothing about it, but I would like to find out! SO, once I do, I'll update this page... It's very nice and interesting position, quite different from the usual fortifications...

  • Lakeside promenade

From the "sunbathing" square to the "monument" square there is a lovely promenade with benches, arches of trees and of course a wonderful view! If you have the time, sit at one of the benches and enjoy the scenery!

  • Colourful huses

Stepping inside the old town of Cernobbio, right beside the lake square, you'll mett lots of lovely colourful houses, some even look German/Austrian to me, although with brighter colours! This one I liked in particular...

  • Berry's Bar Square

I don't know the name of this square either, but there is this big pink building named Berry's Bar, probably there is a bar as well, but I haven't explored... However, it is commonly used among the locals for sunbathing - they tend to gather on the benches in front and enjoy the sunshane and chit chat. There is also a nice fountain, lovely church in...

  • Pretty House

I couldn't stop admiring this very beautiful house! It is right behind the restaurant on the "square", and the river is passing in front of it, and a few meters down it joins the lake. To enter the villa there is a big gate and then you have to cross a cute little bridge.I don't know if this is a private house or what (it seems to be private...)...

  • The Restaurant/Bar

Don't miss this wonderful restaurant at the same square, just a few meters from the monument! Even if you have no eating plans, at least stop by for a drink! It's in full glass and gives the sensation of being in the open space. Another peculiar feature is the waitor! The waitor is Asian and he was EXTREMELY kind and helpful, always smiling and a...

  • Monument Square

I have no idea what's the real name of this square, if it's a square at all since it's not surrpunded by buildings, but anyway... It's the place on the lakeside where the station is, and this monument that irresistibly reminds me of the communist era, with all the statues errected to partisans. :-)

  • Villa d'Este

Villa d'Este is one of the oldest historical villas of the lake. It was made in 16th century by cardinal Tolomeo Gallio.Nowadays it's a very luxurious hotel (it was transformed into a hotel already at the end of 19th century!) It's situated at the banks of the lake, with a pier in front and easily visible from any part of Cernobbio. If you want to...

Cernobbio Restaurants

  • glass restaurant

This is a veeeeeeeeery BEAUTIFUL restaurant at the main square in Cernobbio, by the lake side, where the boat station, heroes monument and children playground are. :) It's quite small, but impossible not to detect as it is the only restaurant/bar over there! :) It is almost entirely glass-walled, with wonderful overview on the square, lake and...

  • ristorante, pizzeria & risotteria

This is another splendid pizzeria in Cernobbio. Its location is not spectacular - it's right on the main road to Como facing the street, but they have a very delicious calzone! Odd enough, Cernobbio has the best pizza's I've ever had! This is the second place I tried in Cernobbio, and it was splendid again! They are not limited to pizza only, they...

    ONDA: A must

    by d_d Written Apr 5, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

'Onda' is one of the most trendy bar on the Como lake.
I have some doubts to put it in nightlife spot, because 'onda' is also a daylife spot: you can drink or eat something (also very good italian dishes) from the morning till the night.
By the way, in summer expecially on thursday night you'll find here really many many young persons, quite commercial music, good coktails...and so on.
The name 'onda' (=wave) is due to the peculiar roof's shape

Dress Code: Casual during the day.
    Trendy by night.

Cernobbio Transportation

  • Boat

The most entertaining way to move around the lake and arrive to Cernobbio is by boat! You can check out the boat schedules on the website provided. The boats are comfortable, accurate and exciting! At least for me!

  • by boat

Probably, in my opinion, the easier way to come and visit Cernobbio is by boat. You can take a pubblic (they are really nice) boat from Como (see) or other lake cities. It's faster and cheaper than bus.

  • Cernobbio by bus

Cernobbio is connected to Como and to all the towns on the western side of Lario (i.e. the lake of Como) by very frequent buses. You will arrive or you will take your bus in this square.

Well, I don't know how to say this in English! Lizarding? :-) It means to stay on the sun like a lizard and enjoy it very much! These people were practicing this sport by the lake in front of Barry's Bar on these benches. They had such pleasurable faces with nirvana smiles and closed eyes! Like enchanted! :-) Some were chit chatting a bit, but mostly the location is used for lizarding. Lovely!!!

    The Lido

In summer you can take a swim in Cernobbio's Lido.
There you'll find two swimmingpools (one nly for children) directly on the lake.
You can rent a chair for the day, or you can use your beach towel.

Cernobbio Favorites

  • Hill Town

Cernobbio extends also on the hills above the lake, and I find it extremely beautiful, especially since it is on the sunny side, always bathing in sun rays, and houses arrayed one after the other in cascades, all of different colours! It looks very cheerful and pretty!

  • Typical Boat

This is a typical boat of the Como lake, a bit modernized version. This one is even named Cernobbio! You won't see them around the lake so often anymore, but sometimes they will surprise you! I like this strange boats very much! Especially when theyhave a "tent" open on the wires that you see as contour.

  • Frozen pools

Behind the restaurant I was talking about so much there are swimming pools, and in winter they can freeze and serve as a skate rink, however I haven't seen anyone doing that at the time we were there, the entire square was empty and we were the only guests of the restaurant together with an elderly couple... The kids here would have exploited the...
