Como by Jelena by Aurorae In the Como downtown there is this cute and nice boat café, where they serve very delicious ice cream! It´s also a perfect place to hide when there is the rain, as it was in my case. But don´t go there when the lake is wavy if you suffer from sea nausea, as it shakes a lot! :) Sorry for the horrible photo, but on a rainy afternoon this was the best I could do... I saw the delicatessan and went in to buy some cheese and salami. People came into the shop and walked straight through the door at the rear. My curiosity got the better of me and through I went to find this gem of a restaurant in the courtyard and patronised by locals only. No english spoken here.........the menu only in italian, so bone up on the language or bring a phrasebook with you. The food is absolutely fresh and cooked to perfection. A great place for lunch! Close your eyes as you go through the shop or, like me, you'll end up spending a fortune. Buon appetito! Leave a Comment Theme: LocalComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Via Cesare Cantu

Yummy hot chocolate with whipped cream by MalenaN This café has a great location for people watching as it is on a square in the centre, just across the road from the lake. They have pastries, ice-cream, sandwiches different coffees etc. I had a hot chocolate with whipped cream. It was the best chocolate I had during my week in Italy. It was thick and tasty. The price for the chocolate was 4.80 Euro (February 2009). The café has many outdoor tables and that’s where I sat down, very happy to be able to sit outside in the sun in February. The bad thing was that four smokers sat down at the table next to me and the wind blow all the smoke on me. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Piazza Cavour 21Phone: 031-301165

It would be very easy to pass by this lovely restaurant without noticing it. It's in a very narrow side-street in the centre of Como and apart from the sign outside, is not immediately visible. The door opens straight onto a flight of stairs but when you get to the top, a cocophany of noise greets you and you find yourself in the middle of a very busy restaurant. When I visited, the clientele appeared to me mainly locals but I was immediately greeted by a very friendly waiter and shown to a table that felt comfortable for me as a single diner. I ordered a pizza and a glass of wine but the waiter said I could have a carafe for the same price and wouldn't entertain the idea of me refusing it. Both the food and the wine were delicious and what I paid for the wine would hardly buy you a glass of good wine in the UK. All in all, eating here was a wonderful experience and when I saw the waiter in the street a few days later, he remembered me and said hello... which I thought was nice as he must see an awful lot of people in the course of his job.
Pizza... couldn't have anything else as Como is reputed to be where pizza originated from. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Via Cinque Giornate, ComoPhone: 338.2096400Directions: In the historic centre.

by Flamegirl This bar was my favourite haunt when I first lived in Como over 5 years ago. I took to heart Tim Parks' advice in his book "Italian Neighbours" that in italy, you should pick a bar and frequent it religiously. So this became my local, where I whiled away many cold winter mornings sipping hot chocolate with whipped cream, or cappuccino, writing postcards or language notes at my leisure and soaking up the Italian way of life. The padded booths are quite comfortable, and in the morning it was quiet enough to sit as long as I liked. In the evening the character changes considerably, as the bar becomes a place for young stylish Italians to have their evening aperitivo, and suddenly it's a bustling hive. Meanwhile, in the summer you can sit outside in the cathedral square and take a bit of sun, enjoy the view, and perhaps sample one of their ice creams or freshly squeezed fruit juices (a spremuta).
My favourite "dish" depends on time of day and season of the year, but a cappuccino and brioche (croissant to me and you) goes down nicely in the morning. Hot chocolate (cioccolata calda) in Italy practically has the consistency of custard, it's very rich and great on a winter afternoon, especially with some cream (con panna) to spoil yourself! The panini are nice, if nothing really special, they also do pasta and bruschetta - good for snacks. In the evening at aperitivo time a chilled prosecco is nice, but I also discovered Bellini here (a cocktail with champagne and peach juice). The interior reminds me of the 40s. I liked the atmosphere. cosy familiar...very nice. Food is simply great, truffles, mushrooms and meat, like the typical fiorentina.
Pezze della priora but my husband took some pasta with a boar sauce that was delicious. View from our table by fdrich29 We were treated very poorly here, it took us forever to be waited on (compared to how long it took other people to be served) and when we did get our food it was a very small portion and microwaved. The small sandwiches and olives served before our meal was the only thing that tasted good this night. The view was very nice, but did not make up for the poor quality of the food. Assuridly there are much better choices for dining in Como, we just weren't fortunate enough to find one.
The food was lousy, but it was a beautiful night to eat outside with a nice view of the lake. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalDirections: Across the street from the ticket booth for the Como boat, a few doors down from the Palace Hotel.

Outside the stadium in Como you'll find a couple of wagons where you can buy hamburgers, sausages, beer, water and so on. At least you should be able to do that. Not sure how it works now, when they are playing in a lower division. If the wagons are still there outside the stadium, be a bit careful since they are placed right at the entrance for the away-supporters. Get your food, and go somewhere else to eat it, is my simple advice. You will probably be fine anyway, but sometimes it's better to be a bit extra careful. If the wagons aren't there anymore - on the way to the stadium you'll find lots of restaurants/cafés along the road, where you can stop and eat something. Just remember that Como is a city very popular for the tourists, which means that the meal probably is quite much more expensive than you had hoped for... When Como was playing in the Serie A it was also possible to buy snacks and water inside the stadium. Leave a Comment

It is really a place like Hemingway would go to.In the summer, you can choose to dine outdoors.Every dish that was recommended by the owner blew me away.My family and I ordered grilled fish platter(huge, juicy shrimp),soup, salad and seared tuna on pilaf rice, which was excellent. For dessert,we had fresh raspberries topped with vanilla ice cream, with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar.SO GOOD!Recommended by the owner,of course. Restaurant by d_d Nicoletta and Giovanni (the restaurant owners) have realized a very comfortable place, where you can eat very good food, totally home made (not frozen food, not preserved food! You can be sure of it) The seats are about 20, so it's better to book! Excellent wine choice!
