Shopping is rarely part of our traveling itinerary. We rarely buy anything, but we do look around at local crafts and products while visiting.
What to buy:
Como is best known for beautiful, locally-made silks which Nancy viewed in store windows. Scarves and other neck ware were shown in abundance, and would likely be the best buy in Como. She found other shops displaying jewelry and fashion accessories to be of interest.
Several weeks before Christmas, lots of street vendors will mount their counters selling their goods on the streets and squares of the town. You can find absolutely everything there, from jewelry, antiques to clothes, souvenirs, cosmetics, toys... There are people from all over the world exhibiting their merchandise, so you can find a Chinese vendor with oriental souvenirs or toys next to the African wood carved furniture and ornaments and then, Polish clothes seller, Italian arts and crafts, etc... it's very interesting!
Here you can find many educational toys for kids made in wood, stuff or any other material.
But you can also find nice objects as lamps, zen garden, chinese tea kit, and many many other things.
It's a wonderul shop!
... if you want something a bit more particular there's the saturday market in Piazza San Fedele. The first sat of the month it's an antique trade market.
What to buy:
Incenses, jewells, accessories, toys....
Every Tuesday, Thursday (morning) and Saturday (all the day long), there's the open-air market near Porta Torre (the medieval city entry) where you can find many things at a good price...
To have a cloth designed and realized only for you!
What to pay:
the price depends on the chosen material and model.
