Around Como lake, from Milan, base in Mezzegra

by microsensazione

Mezzegra is about 30km far from Como Lake, Western shore, and reachable by car following the route SS340.There are ferries from Menaggio (about 7km Northern from Mezzegra) to Bellagio or to Varenna in which you can transport your car (read careful all agreements with the car renter because sometimes it could be they ban to transport cars on boats).About boats time tables, take a look on:http://www.navigazionelaghi.it/eng/com/nlc_ora.htmlMy opinion considering you have already booked hotel in Mezzegra.I was thinking to suggest you to reach Como by train and use only boats but I think Mezzegra is not reachable by boat (only by bus or car). So I think the best and flexible choice is "hire car" in Milan Airport. On the other hand, I notice it's better to limit your movements by car because it's quite difficult to park on villages served by ferries (e.g. Varenna and Bellagio) and it's also...

Public Transport

by anglofrance

110 Euros seems a reasonable price. The single fare from Desenzano to Brescia airport's about 50 Euros. You might want to consider hiring a car. There is a big car park in Sirmione before you go into the town, and a lot of the hotels have space too.The easiest way to get to Sirmione (and a lot of fun too!) is to get the number 1 bus from Bergamo airport to the station and take a train to Desenzano. Either grab a cab there to Sirmione, about 25 Euros, or simply stroll down to the ferry terminal and jump on the next available one to Sirmione. Don't be tempted to get the bus from Bergamo to Brescia and then a train. The area around Brescia station and the bus terminal can be pretty grim at times!
