Several towns and villages on the banks of Lago Maggiore have open air markets. In fact, for each day of the week there is a market somewhere.
On Monday it is in Baveno, on Tuesday in Arona, on Wednesday in Luino (this one is especially big and famous), on Thursday in Omegna, on Friday in Stresa and in Pallanza, on Saturday in Intra and on Sunday in Cannobio.
Alessi is one of the most famous Italian brands of tableware and kitchenware. Some of its production is designed by the most important architects and designers. Their goods can be bought anywhere in the world, and not many people know that the factory is near the Lago Maggiore. Attached to the factory there is the factory outlet (Spaccio Alessi) with discounted prices.
Alessi's motto is "The factory of dreams" and those who like modern Italian design should pay a visit here. The shop is closed on Sundays. Opening time is 10.00-18.00, except on Mondays, when it is open from 14.30 to 18.00.
What to buy: Tableware and kitchen tools of many shapes and sizes, some of them elegant and sleek, others coloured and funny. An object that attracted my attention recently was a cup for ice-cream, made of coloured plastic and stainless steel.
What to pay: Prices range from about 12 euros to several hundreds. It depends not only from the type of object but also from the name of the designer. A pepper-grinder by Sottsass, for instance, can cost four times more than one designed by another less famous designer.
Not typical for me to admire jewels, but this shop was really fascinating! It was the only jewelry shop window I stopped in front in a decade!
What to pay: 20 to 60 euro for the things i liked
