Villa Olmo is the most famous villa in Como (the town), and the most important one. It's situated a bit outside of city center, along the beautiful lake promenade full of nice villas. It's in the middle of the lovely park that extends in front of it, as well as behind, and it has a nice view of the lake, which is just in front.
Take a walk from Como downtown, passing by the Volta monument and following the lakeside to the villa. it's a very lovely walk!
Villa got its name after a big hundred year old elm tree that doesn't exist anymore, and it was built at the end of 18th century. Right after it was finished, it started hosting very important persons, like Napoleon.
Before it was given to the city of Como, it belonged to duke Visconti di Modrone.
Since 80's it's the home of "Alessandro Volta" Centre of Scientific Culture and it hosts many international events.
It is in two floors, and in the ground floor there is a very interesting Mirror Room, with all walls made in mirrors.
