The fortress of Malcesine offers an spectacular view across the lake. In a clear sunny days, from the top of the highest tower, you can see for milles all away to Sirmione and Peschiera. On the other side, there stands Monte Baldo and its nature and ski resorts.

Northern part of the lake

This is the point of the lake where region of Veneto meet region of Lombardy. The Lombardy side of the lake, especially northern end, has partly unapproacable shore which is sheer cliffed. There are only a few settlement on that side, however, the road along the shore is spectacular.

Lakeshore at Bardolino

This is lakeshore at Cisano, small settlement which makes the part of "riviera" of Bardolino. This resort offers a lot of oportunities for various water sports, in particularly for sailling and windsurfing because wind on the ater never stops here.

Lakeshore at Malcesine

The lakeshore in the surroundings of Malcesine offers very attractive beach resorts, as far as I am concerne, more beautiful then those which can be found in the southern part of the lake. Even on this picture, which I took from the top of the castlehill, you can noticed the transparency of the lake water.

The old core of the town

Some of the old and once abandoned houses have been restorated. The ground floor represents an old stone house with characteristic archway to the courtyard, while the first floor was added of the new materials. Now it serves for a summer residance only.

When strolling inside of the Castle Town of Sirmione, many beautiful houses can be noticed. See this cute stone house in the back street of the town.
Most of this houses serves as private accomodations, and it costs much cheaper then in the hotels.

People adore to stay by the lake and read or simply enjoy the view, relax and breathe the fresh air. There are plenty of benches, but often you'd see people on the grass, like on the picnic. Most of them would be foreigners. The best time to enjoy this relaxing activity is late afternoon.

You'll find ducks walking freely everywhere around, they aren't shy to enter the restaurants/bars and pick up food from you. Many people are feeding the ducks, which of course, increases their interest in people and bars. :-) They are very kind and not agressive, so you can feed them freely if you want.

I've always heard that Italian men often show their appreciation for women openly (complimenting her, harmless flirting... nothing dangerous). I've read that many women who visited Italy found this intimidating, especially if they were travelling alone. So, I was a bit nervous before I went.

I didn't have any problems with this. I didn't even see a single man making some kind of gesture towards a woman when I was out and about. But, I didn't even see that many Italian men there (younger ones) which is strange. Perhaps they were busy working. Maybe the men are more forward in other parts of Italy or only during the high season, hehe. Yes, I know I'm being silly. I'm sure not all men are like that. But I've heard so many stories, so I don't think it's just a false stereotype either.

Italian phrase book ;)

We didn't meet many Italians who could speak any English, only a couple. It seems that German is a bit more common though. They often started to speak in German (many Germans come here) although they didn't know if we actually could speak it or not! Luckily, we understood what they said. ;)

I'd definitely advice everybody coming here to learn some Italian words/phrases. Just a few and useful ones like hello (buon giorno), excuse me (mi scusi), thank you (grazie) and some numbers; 1 (uno), 2 (due), 3 (tre).

We really didn't have any problems with communication. If everything fails, just point, it's very useful. Quite many still went on and on in Italian although it was obvious that we didn't understand anything, I guess they didn't know what else to say.
