Monte Baldo, Lago di Garda
This mountain above Malcesine offers the most spectacular panoramic views of the area and wonderful flowers in late spring. I did not go up because our time for the lake was limited but on my next trip I shall close this gap. But it is also a nice view from Tremosine at the opposite side of the lake.
Monte Baldo is beautiful nature resort overlooking the town of Malcesine in the northeastern side of Lago di Garda. You can reach it by foot climbing up, by the road driving the car, and by funivia (cable-car) which is the most attractive way. In the summer times, Monte Baldo offers spectacular view of the whole area of Lago di Garda, while in the winter times it offers skiing and other winter sports.
Monte Baldo is seen here from the western bank. The road on the western bank is very picturesque but unfortunately, as it is hanged at the feet of the mountain, with many tunnels, there is no place to park and It is impossible to take good pictures. Too bad !
Monte Baldo is 1800 meters above Lake Garda, to get up to the top you can climb, drive or take the new rotating cable car from Malcesnie.
This area is very popular for walkers, climbers, mountain bikers etc & not far away are the Italian ski resorts in the winter.
Because of the temperate climate of this sheltered area there is a botanical gardens & a huge array of flora & fauna through out the year to be seen up here.
Monte Baldo is not the name of one mountain, but the name of the whole range on the east side of Lake Garda. You can reach it with a funicular from Malcesine or from the little mountain village Prada also with funicular or you can take road SP3 up the Monte Baldo. This road starts in Mori at the northside of the lake and goes all the way down to Caprino Veronese in the south.
From this road the view on the lake is very rare only at a restaurant above Navene you can have a direct look on the lake to Limone sul Garda. The best thing is to stop along the road where you can start walks into the mountains.
Very important is to visit this mountain range on a clear day. The funicular in Malcesine cost you € 18,00 a person and waiting lines can be long. So the road and a hike in the mountains can be a good alternative.
Be aware of the fact that road SP3 becomes very narrow and you have to watch out for the oncoming traffic.
This mountain can be reached via a panoramic lift from the town Malcesine (or you can hike your way up).
The view from the top is amazing and there are several hiking routes available.
for them who don't bike or hike they even can drive up to the summit by car !?. the view is magnificant.
