The most famous monument in Malcesine is the Scaliger Castle which stands out from the edge of the rocky side of the town.
It is constructed from various periods of time and some of the oldest parts of the walls date back to the 13th century.
The castle houses a museum which has many archaeological items in it.
From the museum which is below the bastion you have a fantastic view of the lake.
Scaliger Castle was first constructed in the 6th century, what stands today as built in the 13th century. Part of the castle grounds are now used as a huge green house for citrus fruits. The castle is presantly a shadow of its former self.
The 3 towered castle is an a perfect strategic postion being on a rocky outcrop in to the lake. One of the rampart walls seemed to be part of the local primary schools playground!
Sorry it is not a great photo, The photo of the front of the castle I stupidly took in to the sun
