Torbole, Lago di Garda
Torbole is a smaller neighbour of Riva - just a couple of kilometres by road - at the far north of Lago di Garda. Indeed a promenade walkway runs between the two - takes about 45minutes to walk or you could take the boat. Also a good base for exploring this end of Lake Garda.
Torbole , one of the both resorts at the northern end of the lake was until 1918 the Austrian Customs station, the building still exists. But nowadays this part of the lake is very appreciated for sailing and windsurfing. The almost vertical rocks on both sides of the lake which gets here quite narrow accelerate the winds blowing from the south to a multiple of their speed and so this area is - other than other parts of the lake - clearly reserved for the more experienced sailors and windsurfers. An advantage is that some of the winds blow quite exactly following a schedule like the famous "Ora" which means hour, blowing almost every day quite exactly at lunchtime.
