To Lecco by train from Bergamo
Getting from Bergamo to Lecco by train, couldn't be simpler. Trains run from the main station in Bergamo about once an hour and take only about 45 minutes to reach Lecco.
Booking in advance isn't really necessary as you can buy the tickets without any problem in the entrance hall. I travelled on June 2, which was a national holiday and there was a queue but it moved quickly.
Having purchased your ticket, make sure to validate it and check which platform the train leaves from. I mention this specifically because I almost ended up at the wrong one myself.
Tickets cost EUR3.40 one way and for a pleasant journey through the Lombardy countryside, IMO, that's a bit of a bargain.
So, a straightforward, stress-free train journey to Lecco. The return trip to Bergamo, however, was quite different. See my warnings and danger tip on this page.

Reaching a rental company after boat landing
I have tried to do a test using Google Map with these assumptions:
- BEGIN is the boat landing in "Lungolario Cesare Battisti" Lecco
- END is a rental company in "Via Ettore Monti, 59/A, 23851 Galbiate-Lecco"
I don't know your habits so it's difficult to suggest the right choice anyway, with assumptions above, you'll need by feet less than 20 minutes to reach the target (about 1,5 km).
I should say it is the best choice in terms of time and costs.

Best bet: Train
Trains from Milano (porta garibaldi station) are twenty minutes to the hour, every hour, and more in the mornings/evenings as its a heavily frequented commuter route.
Coming back to Milano from Lecco, the train is at 5 of the hour every hour (and more).
In lecco the train stops right in the city center, you can just walk to the lake in five minutes.
As everywhere in Italy, parking is a problem also in Lecco, but not as much as elsewhere, as the city is not so crowded, and there are very few and rare traffic jams.
Most of the parkings are pay ones, 1 EUR per hour, and the best time to find place is early morning, of course. There is a parking line along the street going beside the lake, and a parking place after the bridge crossing the lake.
It takes 40 minutes by train to go to Lecco from Bergamo.
