Buy some mushrooms?

Buy some mushrooms?, Lecco

leics Says:  I was fascinated by this shop. It's actually a butcher's shop, but clearly does a roaring trade in mushrooms (dried and pickled) as well. The dried mushrooms, I noticed, were mainly from Bulgaria rather than Italy, but I thought the advice about how to keep them was very...

Find the rest of the castle....

Find the rest of the castle...., Lecco

leics Says:  There are some rather impressive castle walls still remaining, along with a filled-in and grassed moat, but you'll have to seek them out. From the railway station walk to the right, up Via Montello. Hopefully, you'll be able to spot the walls. They date from the 1300s, I...

Explore some alleyways.

Explore some alleyways., Lecco

leics Says:  I did find some little alleyways around Piazza Roma which gave me a taste of what Medieval Lecco might have been like. Some stepped, some cobbled, some leading to unexpected small squares (one still with its own well). Worth a wander round to see what you can see. You never...

Seek out Torre Viscontana

Seek out Torre Viscontana, Lecco

leics Says:  It won't be particularly easy, and you won't be able to get inside.Look to the far north-west of Piazza Roma...you'll see part of a Medieval tower. Wander along the lakeside wand seek out its other sides...you'll find just a tiny part exposed. All the rest of the tower is...

Wander the lakeside

Wander the lakeside, Lecco

leics Says:  To be fair, Lecco has created quite a pleasant lakeside promenade space, with tree and playgrounds and superb views across and along Lake Como.My day was grey and grim and overcast but in bright sunshine I'm sure the views would have been even more stunning.Worth a wander...

Il Pinguino: . . . we all scream for ice cream!, Lecco

Benson35 Says:  Whilst strolling down Via Cavour to find the lake, I walked past this ice cream shop then doubled back to make a purchase!! I had ananas (pineapple), vaniglia (vanilla) and stracciatella. All I can say is "Yummmm-y"!!I was served with a smile and the price was average - I...

Caffe’ & Caffe’: coffe lover's delight

Caffe’ & Caffe’: coffe lover's delight, Lecco

Graceful Says:  Its not really a restaraunt, but its just a really nice place to hang out and talk. They have lots of (delicious) variations of coffee, as well as tea, and a big selection of coffee accessories for sale (as well as chocolate!).They also have a set of advertisement postcards...

Nightlife

Blu Night: Midnight Munchies

Blu Night: Midnight Munchies, Lecco

Graceful Says:  This is a very particular thing in Italy... night time only bakeries! They open late at night and bake away for both bulk orders (ie the briosches that you eat in cafes) and by detail (ie for hte general public). I was told by my friend Kekko who is studying in Bologna that...

Caffè Bovara: Underground Cave

Caffè Bovara: Underground Cave, Lecco

Graceful Says:  looks like a basic cafe'/bar from the outside, but inside and downstairs, you can see the natural beauty, inside its a rustic style "brick and cave" locale. During the day, lots of students grab lunch here, but its also a nice place to have a drink in the evening

Transportation

To Lecco by train from Bergamo

To Lecco by train from Bergamo, Lecco

Ekaterinburg Says:  Getting from Bergamo to Lecco by train, couldn't be simpler. Trains run from the main station in Bergamo about once an hour and take only about 45 minutes to reach Lecco.Booking in advance isn't really necessary as you can buy the tickets without any problem in the entrance...

Reaching a rental company after boat landing

Reaching a rental company after boat landing, Lecco

microsensazione Says:  Hello!I have tried to do a test using Google Map with these assumptions:- BEGIN is the boat landing in "Lungolario Cesare Battisti" Lecco- END is a rental company in "Via Ettore Monti, 59/A, 23851 Galbiate-Lecco"I don't know your habits so it's difficult to suggest the right...

Public transport schedules on public holidays, Lecco

Ekaterinburg Says:  The train station at LeccoMy trip to Lecco happened on 02.06.2012, a Saturday and public holiday in Italy. The outward journey from Bergamo was problem free but trying to return later that evening, was quite a different matter. I bought my ticket having checked the time and...

Grignetta The Crazy Mountain of Lecco

Grignetta The Crazy Mountain of Lecco, Lecco

decimogiulio Says:  The place where the Hell and the Paradise are in a joyful and celestial joining is close Lecco (Italy). This place is the Grignetta mountain. The path rising from Piani dei Resinelli to Rifugio Rosalba has'nt difficulties, not even perils. It only needs a normal little...

Still climbing

Still climbing, Lecco

Aurorae Says:  Whichever mountain you climb around Como lake, you're guaranteed a spectacular view! However, you can be unlucky and meet the "fog", which is not the real fog, but the "state" of air at that moment, that reduces the visibility, and thus prevents clear shots and full enjoyment...

I noticed as I explored Lecco that there are bikes that you can hire. There are at least three places that I saw in Lecco where you can pick-up one of these bikes.
There is an information stand next to each set of bikes with a phone number if you need any more assistance.
By the looks of it, you pick your bike there and then, giving you more time to cycle around Lecco!

The classic view of Lecco

The classic view of Lecco, Lecco

Ekaterinburg Says:  The classic view of LeccoAfter lunch I walked to the other side of town and now looking back, I saw the classic view of Lecco I'd admired on so many photos. This is the view of Lecco's campanile and duomo, with Monte San Martino, standing guard behind. Over here the...

A superb lakeside promenade

A superb lakeside promenade, Lecco

Ekaterinburg Says:  Lakeshore promenade at LeccoThe lakeside promenade at Lecco is one of the prettiest and pedestrian friendly, I've ever walked on. When you come downhill from the train station and eventually arrive at one of the two main piazzas, you are right on the lakeshore and the...

Lecco town

Lecco town, Lecco

Ekaterinburg Says:  From my descriptions so far it's quite likely that one could forget that there is a town in Lecco as well as THAT lake. Well there certainly is a town and the little I saw of it looked very pleasant indeed. I walked directly from the train station to the lake down a steep...

The lake, the lake and nothing but the lake

The lake, the lake and nothing but the lake, Lecco

Ekaterinburg Says:  This part of Lake Como is sometimes known as Lake Lecco but for me it was Lake Como at Lecco and in my humble opinion, just perfect. Given how diiificult it is to get to Como itself from Bergamo and the extra time it would have taken me to go on to Bellagio or Varenna ,...

Lake Como without George Clooney

Lake Como without George Clooney, Lecco

Ekaterinburg Says:  Lecco is situated almost at the end of the eastern leg of lake Como, almost diametrically opposite Laglio on the western leg, where George Clooney has a villa. This just about sums up Lecco. It has the lake, it has the snowcapped mountain peaks and green villa-studded...
