When we arrived in Livigno we were told to ski on the Carossello side in the mornings and head to the Mottolino side after lunch (to follow the sun). We did this for the first two days and it was fine. However, on the 3rd day we decided to do it the over way round as we preferd the skiing on the mottolino side and were anticipating an early finish. This was definately a good move, it was sunny from about 9.30 anyway as it was so high up, and the slopes were virtually empty. It gave us the chance to tackle the black runs before anyone else had cut up the lovely groomed pistes!
Equipment: Definately take goggles up the mountain each day, even if it is bright sunshine in the morning, the snow comes in very quickly and visibility can be poor. It is extremely cold due to the height (even the resort centre) so lots of layers are necessary.
Livigno is a great place to ski. It has many wide and perfectly prepared pistes as well as nice restaurants up the mountains. You can go mountains skiing or snowboarding, cross country skiing or go to guided excursions with snow shoes. There are also several skating rinks or you can try climbing an artificial or natural rock.
Livigno is very famous for its fantastic ski tracks. Many people said that these are the best racetrack of all Valtellina. Try to trust!!! :)
