Take a walk along Menaggio's lakeside promenade and, amongst the flower beds, you will find this monument built to honour the women silk weavers. This piece is by Francesco Somaini, a resident of Lomazzo on Lake Como (1926 - 2005). It honours the women silk weavers of the area and is found near the site of one of the oldest and most prestigious...more
We also stayed on Lake Como last year and found the best way to travel was first by Ferry (check the timetables though, especially Varenna in the evening) and then for that special, do what you want day, hire a boat from Menaggio. There are a few companies on the Lake that do this, but Menaggio is really central and has a car ferry terminal, so its...more
We stayed on Lake Como for 1 week. One of the best opportunities on lake is to rent a motorboat to discover the wonderful beaches, villas and towns directly from the boat.In Menaggio there is a very good and professional rental company, AC BOAT (www.acboatrentals.com) that offers 40Hp motorboats to drive without license and kayaks. The boats are the...more
Gelateria are commonplace throughout Italy; this one is situated on a short detour from the lakeside promenade in Menaggio and offered a great opportunity when we were walking along the route to return to the ferry terminal. As it was a hot day and we were looking for just something light to keep us going, I chose a small cone (uno coni piccolo) and...more
This was absolutely one of the best pizzas I´ve ever had! Really thin and tasty! Prices were quite cheap, pizzas up from 4-5 euros. Wine was cheap and very nice. And the staff and the surroundings were ok. There´s no view to the lake from here, so you don´t have to pay extra for that. There were lots of locals here, I quess that´s good...? The only...more

Once you have arrived at one of the many entry points to Lake Como (Como, Lecco, Varenna), you will find that each of them offer ferry services for travelling around Lake Como or for onward travelling to your ultimate destination.Menaggio was one of our stops during our visit to Lake Como whilst making use of the ferry service one-day pass (at a...more
I went to Menaggio from Milan first taking the train Milan-Como (about 8 euros for the fast train, 3 euros for the slow train). Faster train takes about 35 minutes and slow one about 50, so there´s not much of a difference... Milan trainsstation is nice thing to see too. From Como I took a ferry to Menaggio.more
Taking a bus to/from Como is cheaper and faster than the ferry, but the scenery isn´t as beautiful. Youhave to get tickets from the "tobacconist´s" , the busdrivers don´t sell them unless it´s sunday and t:s are closed, still you have to pay more for the ticket when purchasing in the bus. From Menaggio to Como ticket cost 2.50 euros and should take...more
This supermarket is right next to the harbour, where the ferries leave from. It looks small from the outside, but once you get inside it´s a different story.. I can´t imagine a product you wouldn´t find in here. well maybe you won´t be able to buy a car, but almost everything else is available. If you need a new cage for your hamster or a huge bucket to your summercottage... it´s here. I don´t know if we were conned or if it was a simple mistake, but they charged us 11 euros for a 4 euro wine.. well the difference in the final sum was so big comparing to what we had thought it would sum up to, that we noticed the error straight away and were given back the money. Probably just a mistake, but you might want to check your receipt anyway.
What to pay: I guess the prices were ok. not the cheapest shop you´l find on the earth.
Menaggio and its environs are more of a wealthy older persons destination. For the young or young at heart it is a little sedate. This is not a moan but its the first time that I have gone to bed before 10pm in many years. For many the highlight of the day appeared to be an ice cream! A more beautiful place to eat an ice cream would be hard to find...more
In Menaggio we tried to find a restaurant Which would still serve food after 9 pm. It prooved out to be really hard! It was raining big time, so we didn´t fancy running around the streets for ages, so finally we just settled for a pub/restaurant which served cold snacks. Service was terrible, first we were told they didn´t do takeaways (we never...more
The town located on the western shores doesn’t receive huge inflow of vacationers. There is no death of coffee shops, gelaterias and restaurants. For the ones passionate about golf, there is a lake-front mini golf. holiday villas Lake Como in Menaggio could be easy to find as compared to other places where property prices are sky high.more
On vacation the unexpected is what I relish. I am not much of a car enthusiast, at least, not these days. But, in 1967 driving was much more than mere transportation. On a pleasant June afternoon I fell in love with ... a white Morgan sports car. In the blink of an eye the decision was made. I would return after dinner with checkbook in hand and...more
there´s a good touristinfo in the town. It´s on the mainsquare. They have good info-leaflets about events both in Menaggio and around Menaggio. Staff is very helpful and friendly, plus speaks good english. Drop in to find out if there´s a feast or a market happening in the town you shouldn´t miss.more
