    Santa Marie della Grazie

The old refectory is next to the church and is well sign-posted. Outside the little square has polished stone seats around small green flower boxes. The door says sold out but go in anyway you may discover you can book..

If you come from the other direction you are really aware of the end of the church, which rises above the street. A not unattractive exterior that we were unable to follow up on the interior as the church closes at 12.00.

You line up to enter through the 'air-lock' doors to the refectory proper.

I find the picture a little disappointing. It firstly appears to be out of focus, and then comes a creeping realization of what has been lost - the finer detail. Through the windows behind Christ little is visible yet the style of the landscapes had been to make these quite detailed. The figures appear as planes of colour. The figure of John next to Christ is very sexually ambiguous now.

At the other end, and largely ignored, is a 15th\16th C crucifixion scene that has greater life.

A modern bookshop sells reproductions of the da Vinci, both labelled & plain.

Santa Maria delle Grazie and Cenacolo Vinciano
The church is one of many beautiful churches located throughout Milan but most everyone comes for the rectory next door, the Cenacolo Vinciano where Leonardo da Vinci's, Last Supper is located. There are usually very long lines to see this so definitely make a reservation unless you want to wait for hours.

When you are in Milan, you must seeLeonardo da Vinci's 'Last Supper'. We were lucky enough to see the painting without making reservations. The offical word was that reservation were needed, but we decided to show up and try to get in. We were lucky enough to do so.

Almost always sold out! Try to get tickets in advance - but the little church is worth visiting anyway!

And of course, take a look to the famous 'L´ultma cena' di Leonardo da Vinci.
