Favorite thing: The Lion Bridge is a kind of emblem of the town. It was built on the site where once Roman bridge stood, a remainings of which can be seen on the other side of the river bank. The monumental white-stone bridge is characteristic for its four lion statues.
Unfortunatelly, not much of the medieval Monza have survived. The city walls were pulled down completely and only a traces of it can be seen. As a matter of fact, Monza is one of the very few Italian cities in which the compact historic centre do not exsist.
This one is the only remaining medieval bridge of Monza.
Favorite thing: The streets of Monza are a bit "ravined" in the middle, as the water gathers there to the drainage when it rains, the drainage holes are just in the middle of the walking area!!! I found it very strange, i got used on them being at the side...
Favorite thing: People adore to be out, in spite of a rainy day. many of them are hiding in the small cafes, or shops that are open sometimes even on Sundays, or under the arches of the old municipality, but in spite of the rain, the town is charming and it's lovely to have a stroll.
Favorite thing: There is this cute little stream passing through Monza, adding a little bit of variety to the plain. It is said to be the most polluted stream of Lombardy, but it doesn't look like that. There are ducks and birds around, usually floating around or resting on the banks.
Favorite thing: People crawl out every Sunday, and the weather is not an obstacle! The downtown is so crowded and you'll find yourself in the stream of people taking their Sunday afternoon stroll.
Favorite thing: Behind the Duomo tere are arched narrow passages that children use for play, I saw heaps of kids hiding around and scaring one another...
Favorite thing: There are so many hidden squares in Monza, usually in front of the churches or some monuments, yards... This church was abandoned and totally empty.
Favorite thing: The main street is much borader than the little narrow ones in the downtown, but like all the others it is cobbled. There are beautiful trees and often black people selling pirate CD's.
Favorite thing: In the main street there is this lovely red brick church. Red bricks are typical material used in Lombardy, and it gives so much colour and charm to the region!
Favorite thing: One of the pretty buildings is the old municipality, in the very heart of the town. Underneath are arched passages, typical fro Lombardy, and very useful to hide under when the rain strikes! :)
Favorite thing: Over the stream there is a beautiful lion birdge, nothing like spectacular Budapest's chain bridge, but in that style allright. There are four lions guarding the cobbled crossing.
