Italians are addicted to espresso but there excist more deeper addiction to the cafe-bars, a traditional meeting point place for the locals. Everybody has his "own" cafe-bar, visiting it regularly on a daily basis. It is place where one can meet friends and have endless discusions about football and politics.
This is my favourite cafe-bar in Sirmione, perfectly located in the heart of the old core and yet, offering tranquillity and relaxing atmosphere far of overcrowded via Vittorio Emanuele.....

When strolling around the old core of the town, take note of the beautiful stone houses located in the area right next to the Casello Scaligero and around the church of Santa Maria Maggiore. Most of this houses have been newly reconstructed according to the original plans.
This one on the picture is the most beautiful stone house in the town.

The whole place looks very pitoresque, the streets are very clean, the facades of the houses well preserved or fresh coloured, while the windows and the balconies arranged by the flowers. The whole environment is attractive and invaiting. Once you visit Sirmione, even if it was just a day trip, you woould want to revisit it sonn again. My first visit to Sirmione was back in the beginning of the '70 and have revisit it so many times, never having enough of it.

See this example of the residential house located right opposite to the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, the very old ground floor with the arch and new addition on the first floor. There are many similiar examples in the old core of the town. This arches are in particularly interesting, I wonder what is their purpose.
There is a pharnacy shop now in the ground floor of the house.

All this shots are different, took in the course of several minutes only. There is the town of Desenzano across the lake and it is the direction in which I aimed my camera. As you can see on the pictures, it is the beginning of the November and the time is soon after 5 PM. Do not miss the sunsets when in Sirmione!

Sunset is the time of the day which I like the most because no painter can paint the colours made by mother of nature. It is the time of the day when Sirmione and Lago di Garda looks fabulous. You can watch it from the top of the Castle Scaligero or from the lakeshore and both spots offer to you breathtaking scene.
