The glass display case on the street outside Il Gabbiano immediately draws the eye to a perfection of glorious attire for the designer baby and toddler. I passed the shop a dozen or more times and finally I could ignore it no longer. The pretty dresses and elegant cashmere baby cardigans called to me and I couldn't resist.
The older lady who was behind the counter that day was more than helpful and not a bit pushy. As a result I bought more than I intended
This particular shop stocks a lot of the Italian designers including Dolce and Gabanna, Bluemarine and Alviero Martini; they also have quite a penchant for Burberry.
Expect to pay heavily for these items as they are in a class above and beyond the more popularly seen Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hillfiger that we see a lot in ireland. Expect, also, to come away with the most perfectly designed and entirely different little items of clothing all wrapped perfectly and tied with gold ribbon.
What to buy: What not to buy? I warn you to resist....or your bank manager will do it for you!
What to pay: A lot! Pay a hundred euro or more for toddlers jeans, three hundred for a tiny white fur coat, and so on.

There are those who claim that the art of letter writing is dead or dying. I disagree. I believe that this almost dead art has had a rebirth with the prolific use of email and has simply taken on a new form.
However, for those who still enjoy letter writing in its beautiful and original format there is noplace like Italy for purchasing fine writing paper and writing implements.
The best shop in which to purchase these items in Sirmione is Benzoni.
What to buy: I purchased leather bound diaries and blank books, a travel journal (again leather bound), stunning wrapping paper, gift tags, unusual bookmarks and calendars, pretty notelets and writing paper.....the list goes on. I also admired old fashioned ink pens and calligraphy sets with multicoloured inks.
The shop also has a very good selection of guide books and maps and once again I indulged. These days I like to purchase a street map of each place I visit to mark out where places are for future reference.
I visited this shop four times during my week there and would have bought more but for the weight of paper products.
Oh, they also sell the coveted Hello Kitty products for big and little kids alike!
It's gorgeous.
What to pay: These are high quality products so they're not cheap; however you can get bookmarks for as little as a euro and calendars for just four euro. Prices go up from there and a genuine leather bound journal will start at a little over thirty euro for something really nice.

There are several cheap clothes shops in Sirmione. Some have an only price (it's so simple).
This one is "all for 20 Euros".
An other was at 15 Euros. The cheapest was at 10 Euros.
We did not see a shop at 5 Euros or a free shop.
What is the difference between clothes at 20 and at 15 euros ? you ask.
I answer : 5 euros.
But I am not a specialist.
What to pay: 20 Euros.
