On the streets of Lovere: Get your milk while its "hot"

    Milk Machine in Lovere, Italy
    1 more image

Okay this is not a strict "shopping tip" by the exact definition, but interesting enough to me to mention it here...
We found a milk vending machine in Lovere, Italy.
You can see the photos, it comes complete with empty milk bottles and a very photogenic rendering of a nice cow.

What to buy: Pasturized milk, in several sizes and yougurt to boot....who could resist, especially since we had never seen one of these, even in overly mechanized and fast food/takeaway America.

Alighting from the bus, we had spotted market stalls lining the lake-side. It was surprisingly larger than I'd thought at first.
First of all we wandered around the food stalls - A variety of local products including cheeses, cured meats, fruit and vegetables - all brightly coloured and appealing. We were nearly drooling over the plump strawberries!
Bergamo province is noted for the quality and variety of food grown and produced here. At least 8 types of local cheese have a DOP (Designation of Protected origin) status.

There were a few stalls selling pets - budgies and terrapins etc. These looked quite healthy.

Clothing, household goods, shoes, handbags etc were piled on other stalls.
A bag caught my eye - a lightweight bag with pockets, to be worn across the body - I handed 8 Euros to the stall holder - prices were displayed on all of the bags.

There were a few stalls selling hot snacks and drinks.

So, bring some sturdy shopping bags, and your Euros!!

What to buy: Local food produce - Cheeses (made from cows, goat or buffalo milk), cured meats, olives, herbs, fruit and veg etc.

    LInens

Brightly coloured espresso cups, olive dishes etc

    leather goods

What to pay: From less than a Euro to ..........................?

On Saturday mornings you will find the town's local market. Stalls offer a selection of goods from clothing to housewares, fruit and vegetables to dairy produce.

What to buy: Great cheeses and fresh fruit.

What to pay: Prices at all the stalls seemed very reasonable. The cheeses, in particular, appeared to be of good value.
