If you're tired of lying on the beach or visiting the typical monuments, head for Frasassi stalactite caves (Grotte di Frasassi) , outside Ancona. The route in the caves is about one or two kilometers long and definitely worth seeing and feeling.
The climate in the cavescan be a bit cool so you might need a long-sleeved blouse or long trousers. No high heels for walking! Photos are usually prohibited.
Before going inside the caves you can do some shopping in the little piazza / market square, filled with vendors selling cards and souvenirs.

If you fancy some sunbathing on a beach, then head up the coast about 5 miles to Falconara Marittima. Here there is a beautiful beach that stretches for miles. There's not a great deal to be found in the town itself but I did spend the night here after I spent a day visiting Ancona. When I was there, it was mid-May and the holiday season hadn't got going yet (the photo is one I've found on a website!).

This was the door to the city when coming by foot. It's located next to a pentagonal shaped maritime building (built I think in the 17th century) called "La Mole", where many exhibits are shown. If you are walking from the train station into the center of town (a 20-30 minute walk), la mole and porta pia are halfway between along the water.

This picture was taken from the back of the Duomo. I loved the neglected church with the Adriatic as a background. Ancona is definitely nice to wonder around without direction. Just lose yourself among the old buildings and the labrynth of streets. Don't worry about getting lost; being lost is how lifetime memories and experiences find you.

What the travellers must undertsand, I think, when they come to this region....that they have to understand that is not a land of 'Florence, Rome, Venice...for example'....but this place is for someone, whom is looking for little details....tiny churches, small towns, little narrow alleys, low smooth hills...and plently more of really small details that can make your visit so worthy...and that will open your heart.... like no other place might! ;-)

Very close to Ancona, it is a modern tourist locality, full of splendid gardens and fine and golden sand. The lovely beaches are perfect spots for sunbathing and enjoying the Adriatic Sea.
