Travel through Macerata with “Mimi Augello”

by Trekki

Fans of Sicilian Commissario Montalbano will surely know Mimi Augello, Montalbano’s colleague, a womaniser but eventually marries his longtime girlfriend Beba. Actor Cesare Bocci, who plays Mimi, was born in Marchese town Camerino and is relatively popular in Italy. Recently, tourism board of Marche’s province Macerata and he have complied quite a selection of podcasts, available as mp3 downloads, where Mimi talks about the province, the dialect, the events, the castles and fortresses, the wine and dishes, holy monuments and sites of faith and many villages. In total it is 7 general podcasts and 57 about the individual villages. I can only highly recommend listening to these in case you are interested in this province. He speaks a relatively pure Italian (as far as I am in a position to estimate) and also slow. While I am writing this I am listening to his description of the food and the...

No crowds in the off season

by merockwell

This area is mostly visited by Italians in the first place, but in the off season they go back to work and you've got the place pretty much to yourself. An example being this picture of our car parked in the main square in Fabriano on a busy Monday afternoon.

The Marche: Where Italy's Name Was Born!

by deecat

Like many of you, I do research before I leave to know what we want to see & do. In the midst of all of my reading, I came across a most unusual bit of information that I'd like to share. Found on Italia, the official website of the Italian State Tourism Board-enit.They told tourists why we should visit the areas of Le Marche & Umbria. The article ended with these powerful words:"...The Marches Umbria were populated civilised by native peoples, the Italic. ...In 90 BC the people of this city [Corfinium] rose against Rome, & made it the capital of their state, giving it a name destined to have a very long life- Italia. That ancient Italia was overwhelmed & defeated. But the name remained, & long outlived Roman power, to spread to the whole of Italy."So, one might say that to visit Le Marche is to visit Italy! There are no heavy industries in the region; instead, it is a service & artisan...

Opera

by xaver

This is Macerata, where there is one of the most beautiful open theater in Italy and in summer, it offers a really good opera season, I always find a great atmospheare there.to reach Macerata, just leave the highway A14 at Civitanova Marche then procede to Macerata direction. My fondest memory about Macerata is their performance of *Traviata* the scenography was made up by a giant mirror that reflected the paintings on the stage, it's really hard to explain, specially in english, but it was really impressive.
