Living nativity near Frasassi caves
Italy is a very religious country and consequently, the major holiday in Christianity, Christmas, is being celebrated with passion. Nativities are put upeverywhere and very often, nativities are being set up with people, called presepe vivente. No wonder that Genga’s locals have chosen Gola di Frasassi with its steep rocks and caves as a location to held their living nativity. But in contrast to others, this one is like a whole village, given the video I saw. Approximately 150 locals participate. They do traditional work of the early days like grinding grain, bake bread, do fishing in a little lake, spin wool, weave and sew clothes, a woman does belly dance (brave girl given the temperatures!), cook dishes etc. It all culminates at the top of the path, where the sanctuary is located in a huge cave.
