walkers looking for a change and some dramatic scenery should consider the"Hell's Gorge" walk near Montefortino in the Sibillini Mts. Watch the drive down to the start as the white roads seems to go on for ever. At the end of the road is a car park where the fun begins. Walk down and the cliffs tower above you-the first bit looks demanding but after 200m or so of uphill its plain sailing and very spectacular. Sunlight sparkles through the trees and the cascading river is music to listen to. Our base was Villa San Raffaello www.villasanraffaello.com where we rented a lovely self catering apartment- the views from the pool were so amazing it was difficult to tear ourselves away. The villa is a couple of minutes from a beautiful hilltop town Sarnano; this has a tourist office which has details of a number of circular walks detailing gradient, time, distance and degree of difficulty. Wonderful Out-Of-The-Way Places in Le Marche
by deecat
We certainly saw plenty of out-of-the-way places while visiting the Le Marche. We became very intimate with the backroads. Most of these experiences were delightful, but, at times, we became exasperated. One such event happened when we were on our way to the coast, to Sirolo to be exact. We were doing nicely and then ran into a road block and had to figure out another way. Allan is excellent with direction and map reading so I was not too concerned. Of course, he figured it out, and we were on our way via a back road, narrow and winding. That, fortunately, took us to darling and tiny Barchi, a small village with one of the best set of intact town walls that we walked...around the entire town. From there, we went to Mondavio where we saw a great Castle with dry moat and lots of interesting weapons. That's also where we had excellent gelato.Photographs:1. Entrance to small village of Barchi...

SiroloSirolo is a pleasant...
by call_me_rhia
SiroloSirolo is a pleasant village in the middle of the Conero, and the Conero is what the locals call a mountain (they wish!). There's not a lot to do there on a rainy day, except visit the nice main square (Piazza Belvedere) and drink coffee. On a sunny day, however, I'm told there are wonderful beaches to sit on, and interesting boat trip to take: namely to a sea cave (Grotta Urbani) and to some sea-stacks (le Due Sorelle).Photo: Piazza belvedere in Sirolo
Frasassi caves...
by xaver
Frasassi caves, they are about 70 kilometers far from Ancona, but definitly deserve a visit.Going there with public transports is not so easy, it's better if you rent a car, take the speed way from Ancona to Rome and leave that street at Genga, the follow the directions to Grotte di Frasassi. For more information www.frasassi.comP.S.Don't forget to go there with a jacket, many people forget that it is a cave and in summer go there with beach clothes coming back regulary with a cold, but I bet here people are more cleaver then the turists I usually meet.
Offagna

Visit Offagna, it's a lovely small medieval centre, here on summer there are some great medieval fests where you will let you eyes and your mouth have a good time. Try to visit the arms museum, it's interesting there are some old torture weapons.Photos in travelogue.
Unique beaches
by xaver
Try to go from Sirolo to Le due sorelle beach walking, it is a 20 minuts walk and you will join some great views, if you are a quite expert hiker, try also the 'passo del lupo' it's a very panoramic and not too safe street that goes from Monte Conero to the seaside.
