Delicious local restaurant in San Leo

by Trekki

Now I would never describe myself as a gourmet, at least not when one wants to serve me frog legs or chicken feet or brain mousse. But in Italy I learned the art of food and dishes. This has not so much to do with the very complicated preparation of unusual food, but more with the reflection back to what food and dishes were originally and in a way also getting back to original recipes. It is a simple cooking, but it tastes heavenly!! When I arrived in San Leo and walked around a bit, I got hungry. I didn’t really look at the menus or searched the village for the best restaurant, but I think I found it – but by chance. Or because it is sitting just off Piazza Dante. So I have decided to eat, and more out of my wish not to embarrass the waitress by being deciphered as the German who only knows pasta and pizza, I studied the menu quite extensively and came to the conclusion that I wanted to...

avoid brodetto: Seafood

by xaver

In Sirolo (a very nice and original village) I higly reccommend you two restaurants: Sara in sirolo square(book!, they have just 5 or 6 tables) and Vittoria, that has a great view on the seaside, both are fish restaurants and in Sara's you can taste the typical fish soup (zuppa di pesce) I will tell you the only dish I do not appreciate. They as many other restaurant 0of this area serve brodetto(which is a fish soup), actually only a few restaurant do that soup good and this is not one of them.Grilled fish is very nice.

La Donzelletta: traditional poor dishes

by xaver

If you have a car, you can drive south Ancona about 25 kilometers and join a very original restaurant in Recanati(the town deserves a visit too). The restaurant is named 'la Donzelletta' and its dishes are all particular of this italian area, do not miss 'formaggio di fossa' it's a particular kind of cheese that you eat with honey. If you are in Recanati centre, then the restaurant is about 4 kilometers far following Villa Musone direction. Just ask them to let you taste their pork products and cheese, you'll be amazed.

Clandestino susci (not sushi!) bar: Fish-salami in Portonovo bay!

by AngeloRecchi

The Clandestino susci bar is owned and run by Moreno Cedroni, one of the best fish chefs in Italy. The place is located in the enchantful bay of Portonovo, in Monte Conero area, 20 minutes driving both from Ancona and from A14 Ancona South exit. Although a bit pricey (think about 20-25 Euro for a light lunch), is definitely worth a try, especially for its fish salumi, that is fish cared like pork meat. In addition to their tuna bresaola, or Pesce Spada (swordfish) prosciutto, you can also have a small tin (like the usual tuna small tins) with octopus and some tomatoes, or monkfish and potatoes. Moreover, they open it directly at your table, and make you smelling how still fresh is the fish. Indeed, the work on that fish is made at the "Officina", in Senigallia, next to the Madonnina del Pescatore restaurant. To conclude, after dessert, you can even have a cup of Espesso, which is the......

Ristorante - Pizzeria La Loggia: Outstanding Meal in Urbania

by deecat

BE SURE TO SEE ALL THE HIDDEN PHOTOGRAPHS!Allan and I really enjoy our delicious meal at Ristorante - Pizzeria "La Loggia" in Urbania. It was recommended by the girl at the Tourist Bureau, and we were glad that she told us about it!Our total bill was 41 Euro and included the Bread and Breadsticks, Insalata Mista, Asparagi Parmigiena, Passatelli porcini, 4 formaggi Pizza, Costine d'agnello, One bottle of Acqua Natural, and Vino Rosso (1/4 lt.) and Vino Bianco (1/4 lt.).Allan and I shared the local pasta (hand-made noodles with grated cheese, milk, egg, and the Portocino Cheese in a delicious sauce. But, we both felt that the noodles were way too thick!Allan really enjoyed the Asparagus with cheese and butter, and I loved the Insalata Mista (mixed salad) that was so huge that Allan and I shared it.I had the Quatro Cheese (4-cheeses: the usual cheeses plus blue cheese and what they call...

Ristorante Tornasacco: A Romantic, Lovely Evening in Ascoli Piceno

by deecat

An enchanting evening was experienced on the 2nd night that Allan & I spent in Ascoli. At first we were disappointed because we wanted to eat at Trattoria Laliva which was suggested by the rave review of fellow VT friend, IandSmith. However, I had another suggestion from an Australian, Gavin Crawford, who had also visited Ascoli. Located upstairs at 36 Piazza del Popolo we entered Ristorante Tornasacco. It's an incredible location overlooking the beautiful Piazza del Popolo; secondly, the interior is lovely with local art & stained glass. Now, this was a much more expensive dinner than the night before, but it was well worth the money.Note: Pane- coperto of 2 Euro per person is charged- bread. We found this to be "par for the course" in Italy.Besides the bread (which we dipped in wonderful Virgin Olive Oil & grated cheese), we were served sparkling wine to start the evening. Allan & I...

Ristoranta Della Rosa: Fresh Seafood at Its Best in Sirolo

by deecat

While in Sirolo, we enjoyed our Saturday night dinner at Ristorante Della Rosa. After entering the restaurant, you walk downstairs, which is really on ground level and looks out over an outdoor eating area. It was far too cool that night to eat outdoors. It was quite lovely inside with murals on the wall.We spent about 2 1/2 hours enjoying a leisurely dinner, delicious wine, and yummy dessert.I had the house bianco vino, and Allan enjoyed the house rosso vino. The bread was wonderful, and we enjoyed it with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and grated cheese. The Insalata Mista that I ordered was so large that Allan had to help me out. We shared a pasta with noodles and all kinds of sea food. Allan ate the largest portion because I knew I had to go slowly and in small portions. We also had Olive Ascolana which we had discovered in Ascoli Piceno. Another huge portion.I had a delicious brick-oven 4...

Osteria S. Nicola in Tolentino: A Reasonably Priced Osteria in Tolentino

by deecat

After an exasberating journey to reach Tolentino because of a detour along a major road, we finally arrived and were quite hungry. So, we found Osteria S. Nicola Pizza Osteria and ate lunch. They were offering a buffett with various foods, and since Allan loves trying new and unusual items, he naturally chose the buffett (4.00 Euro), and I chose the Brick-Oven Pizza with tomatoes and Basil (4.50 Euros). I also had an Insalata Mista (Mixed Salad) which was large enough to share with Allan ($4.00 Euro). As usual, we were charged for the bread basket (1.50x2=3.00 Euro). Much to our surprise and delight, this bread basket had several different and delicious choices...bread, breadsticks, and crackers. We also ordered aqua naturale (water without gas) that cost 1.0Euro.The total bill was 16.50 Euro plus we left a tip. I wanted to be sure to see The Church of S. Nicola, so I left to walk up the...
