Termoli Things to Do

  • Visit the harbour

Termoli harbour is divided into two areas: one for fishing boats and one for touristic boats. Since the harbour is close to the city center, you can plan this activity as after-dinner stroll, to get out of the city crowd. Daily tours to the Tremiti Islands start from here. Some bars in the fishermen area are are too much expensive, ask for prices...

  • Visit the modern city centre

Besises Termoli Old Town, a modern city center with fashion shops and bars is located just outside the walls. The modern city centre is very crowded at night, and it is pedestrian area in summertime. Shops are open till late as well as bars, ice cream shops and restaurants. Moreover, at summertime Termoli is very active and events takes place every...

  • Take a walk around the walls

I definitely suggest a walk around the walls of the old town. The promenade can be accessed either form the harbour or from the Lungomare Colombo; it offers stunning views of the sea, and you will be surprised to see the walls from a different perspective. This promenade passes by a couple of fishermen old-style houses, called "Trabucchi". These...

  • Visit Termoli old town

Termoli is an ancient city, it was originally built inside the tall defensive walls equipped with guard towers to protect people from sea attacks. Nowadays, Termoli is a big city made up of a new, big area but still preserving the old town as inhabited area. I definitely suggest strolling around the small ancient pedestrian streets of the old town,...

  • Beach life

Termoli is a nice city to visit, the good news is that you can combine your visit with some beach life. The sea here is clean, it has been awarded the European Blue Flag for several years, meaning the water quality is high. The sea floor enters the sea smoothly, which makes it perfect for children to play and to get familiar to salted water and...

  • Old houses in the Citadel forming...

The old part of Termoli, inside the citadel, is compossed by many old houses, many of them form tunnels.

  • Trabucco!

For all who loves fishing - you can't miss this lesson about fishing possibilities. It's an old tradition in Termoli to fish using trabucco.. and you can get there fresh fish, fresh seashells every evening.. except of the periods when fishing is forbidden;)

  • Il duomo

The cathedral of Termoli is a home for the saint Basso - the saint of all sailors and sea lovers.. for the festival of San Basso check my travelogues.

  • Visit the castle of Termoli

I've heard from local people that this castle is called "Castello Svezzio" (or similar), because it was built (or maybe rebuild) by Swedish king who arrived in Termoli and occupied it and other places around.. Sounds really interesting..In the castle there is a museum and from time to time they have some visiting exhibitions there - of photography,...

Termoli Restaurants

  • Wonderful location but nothing else

We stopped at the "Battello Ebbro" restaurant because of its wonderful location on a terrace in between the castle tower and the lighthouse. As usual we preferred to have dinner in the street, being warm and in a pedestrian area. The menu is quite comfusing: different dishes from different area of the Mediterranean Sea (some Greek, some North...

  • Meat restaurant at the seaside :-)

We ate at "Il mosto selvatico" while looking for a non-fish restaurant. I have an allergy to shelfishes and mussels and I generally feel sick everytime I eat fish.. This restaurant was actually advised by another restaurant as the best meat restaurant in town.We had cavatelli (a type of pasta) with fresh tomatoes and caciocavallo (a local type of...

  • taste a good wine

taste a good wine in this enoteca. Genesio Genua, the owner, has too a good self-made snack for you in the evening.Wonderful place in the old town of Termoli.

Termoli Nightlife

  • Music is everywhere

In Termoli, music is everywhere, it's like moving from concert to concert while strolling around. You have a wide choice of activities, from concerts in the castle squares, to karaoke and disco music on the beach.

  • Street life

The term of nightlife in Termoli has quite an interesting aspect - when it gets dark, people come out of their homes and make a big get-together in the middle of the streets.. old and young...! and if car drivers want to go through the street - it's their own problem:)

Termoli Transportation

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

As usual in Italy the driving is really crazy in Termoli, the problems with parking, high traffic... eh... The best way to get around is by little motorcycle, because in a car you stay stucked in a traffic for long time..
There is some public transportation (buses) available as well. In some places of city there is a yellow terminal where it's said you can call for the bus there and wait until it comes and takes you where you want to go... haven't seen that terminal working though...:)

Termoli Shopping

  • Shopping on the beach

This is very typical of Italy, above all in the South. People with a two-wheel cart move up and down the beach selling women's clothings and bathing suits at cheap prices. They don't scream and don't push you to buy, they just stop and wait for customers. I usually buy nice cheap dresses (max 8€ per dress) which are perfect for the beach life.The...

  • Souvenirs

There are lots of various shops in the city, many of them selling the famous brand names, but if you are looking for the hand-made crafts better search for them in little souvenir shops like "Il Faro" in the old town near the castle of Termoli. Lots of interesting collars made of stones, seashells...

  • Don't Forget Insurance

If your current health insurance doesn't cover you while your abroad, you should consider getting international travel insurance just in case something should go wrong.

Termoli Local Customs

  • Eating in the streets

I have noticed that most of the restaurants in Termoli have tables in the street facing the restaurant entry (at least in summertime). This habit is actually very popular in Italy, above all in the south, but it seems even more common here. I suggest eating outside, usually the street is for pedestrian only and you can watch the city and people...

  • Posters for passed away

I haven't seen anything like this in any other country (except Greece) - on the walls of houses Italians put a poster saying about the death of their beloved people.. So everyone in the neighbourhood knows what happened and can express their condolences to the family.

  • Lotto!!

Imagine - we are in a hurry going home for lunch (for those who don't know, in Italy food is a religion and you can't be late for eating!), lots of traffic in the streets and suddenly we stop in front of little shop selling lotto tickets..!!! ah... we can't miss lotto even we miss lunch!!!

Termoli Off The Beaten Path

  • The port of Termoli

The smell of freshly caught fish, the sound of crying seagulls..I liked to come there to watch the boats, the people preparing to leave the coast, returning from fishing, waiting to buy various "frutti di mare".

  • Cactus in the window

Look what a little but lovely house window I have found in the old town!! Actually I am not very impressed by Italian windows, they keep them always closed.. I loved the Greek windows much more, but this little one was cute enough to dedicate for it a whole photo..:)

  • Flowery corner

One of many nice exploration results in the old town. The house near the cathedral and Guiness beer pub.

Termoli Favorites

  • Citta vecchia - old town

  • Citta vecchia

I especially loved the old town of this city. It is situated in a very small place on a hill surrounded by defence wall and old castle, guarding the town from intruders. The streets there are so narrow and full of hanging laundry:) I loved to have a walk there in the evenings, when local people go out of their homes, open the doors, take the...
