Things to Do

The castle

The castle, Moneglia

dabuwan Says:  This castle, called "Castello di Monleone" is a bit uphill, 5 minutes from the centre. Its not such an old building (it dates back to the 19th century) and its architecture is a bit in contrast with the rest of the town. Most of this castle has been converted into a luxury...

The main street

The main street, Moneglia

dabuwan Says:  The main street in Moneglia is a pedestrian zone and it runs parallel to the beach. Most shops, bars and reastaurants (and the only bank in town) are here.

The "carrugio"

The "carrugio", Moneglia

dabuwan Says:  The old centre of Moneglia still has some narrow streets, called "carrugio" in local dialect, that date back to the medieval age.As there is always shadow, they are pleasantly cool in summer. There are some bars and a few local shops.

The beach (3)

The beach (3), Moneglia

dabuwan Says:  Moneglia is a small town and all accomodations are within 5 minutes walk from the sea. Some houses are even directly on the beach....

The beach (2)

The beach (2), Moneglia

dabuwan Says:  In winter months the beach is virtually deserted, but on a sunny day you still can enjoy it. Sea water is then a bit cold to swim (though german and sacandinavian tourists sometimes do), but laying in the sun is OK.

The beach (1)

The beach (1), Moneglia

dabuwan Says:  The beautiful sandy beach is about 1 kms long and it is protected from the waves by some rocks about 100 mt from the shore.Water is thus pleasantly warm from May to October and it is ideal for kids.

Hotels

Enoteca

"Enoteca" means something like "wine store". It is a bar where you can taste local and national wines, choosing from a selected list.
Great food is also available at lunch and dinner time, ideal to accompany your drinks.
There are just a few tables.

The boulevard in Moneglia

Nights are quiet in Moneglia. There is one disco, but the main evening activity is just walking on the town boulevard, close to the beach, and sitting at the bar for a drink.

The entrance of the coastal tunnel

It is difficult to reach Moneglia by car. Unless you want to make a 40 kms detour on a small winding road up and down the surrounding mountains, the only connection is via a narrow tunnel that runs parallel to the coast. This 5 kms long tunnel was used by the train (now the railway has been moved 1 km in the interiors) and it is thus just a bit more than 2 mt wide and completely dark. Driving is only permitted with cars (no bycicles, no trucks) in alternate ways. There is a traffic light (19 min. red light, 1 min. green light) to allow the traffic flow in one direction or the other.
You can better reach Moneglia by train.

Mandala shop.

Mandala is an amazing little shop with hand made goods from Asia and Africa.
Most of the handicrafts come from India and the selection and quality are very good.
