Things to Do

Asilo infantile

Asilo infantile, Monte San Vito

JLBG Says:  This building is labeled as ‘Asilo infantile”, which would correspond to orphanage. It seems rather large for such a small town but does not seem to be in use anymore as all the windows and shutters are tightly closed. The second photo is a close up on the entrance with an...

Chiesa San Pietro

Chiesa San Pietro, Monte San Vito

JLBG Says:  Chiesa San Pietro is built in bricks as the whole village as there are no rocks for building in this area. It was built in 1753. It has no carving on the front wall but the builders have used the bricks in horizontal layers that try to give a fancy look.

Frontoio Storico del 1688

Frontoio Storico del 1688, Monte San Vito

JLBG Says:  Frontoio Storico del 1688 (Historic fronton from 1688). I have been unable to learn more about that nice looking building. I suppose it is another small Palazzo as it looks great. One part is now used for the office of the “carabinieri” (Police station)

Nice terrace!

Nice terrace!, Monte San Vito

JLBG Says:  I wondered why they had a large screen on the terrace of the café. I found a bit later that it was for the broadcasting of an international football match that involved Italy. The evening was very noisy and we looked for a restaurant as far as possible from this place!

Single way!

Single way!, Monte San Vito

JLBG Says:  The streets that lead to the square on top of the hill are narrow and thus, they are one way only. The square is the place where the villagers meet with the church, the town hall and a café with a wide terrace.

Palazzo Malatestiano

Palazzo Malatestiano, Monte San Vito

JLBG Says:  The town hall of Monte San Vito stands in former stands in former Palazzo Malatestiano, near the top of the hill, with the church just behind. It is entirely built in bricks and not very scenic. However, the clock tower standing over the vaulted entrance brings shows that it...

View on the plain

View on the plain, Monte San Vito

JLBG Says:  From the square on top of the hill, the view on the plain is stunning. Behind the hills, you can see the coast the city of Ancona and the harbor with the ferries is not shown on this photo, it is just a little further on the right.

Top of the hill!

Top of the hill!, Monte San Vito

JLBG Says:  The very name of Monte San Vito (Mount San Vito) tells that it is a hilltop village. The photo shows the village laying around its church that stands on top of the hill. The houses are standing one against the other, with no special planning. It is not surprising that there...

Hotels

Viadelcampo: Viadelcampo

Viadelcampo: Viadelcampo, Monte San Vito

JLBG Says:  Viadelcampo B&B is very nice and cosy. The lady that runs it, Silvia Serrani has made all the décor and has painted each room differently. It is quiet with a tasty breakfast.Photo 2 shows our comfortable bedPhoto 3 shows the Indian style painting on one of the walls of the...

Warnings Or Dangers

Caution school!

Caution school!, Monte San Vito

JLBG Says:  I was lucky to find in Monte SanVito a school warning road sign of an old type with a big boy running to school with a small girl with a plaited hair.I have now more than 50 photos of school warning road signs in several countries and should to collect all of them in...

A quiet little place near Ancona

JLBG profile photo

Though Monte San Vito has several interesting features, I would not say that it is worth a visit for itself. We had to sail on the ferry from Ancona and were due to be at 11 AM at the company...
