Since this is the overall page...

by sargentjeff

Since this is the overall page on Italy, I won't make any specific recommendations. I will however spell out my observations on Italian nightlife in general. Going out here can be so much fun. Italians know how to have fun, and you can find great places all over. Generally, Italians go out much later than Americans. Most don't eat dinner until at least 8pm, and will leave to go out to a club at 11. Pubs - Usually places to just drink and chat with friends. There are Irish pubs in different places. I've been to one in Sorrento, which is quite good. There is another Irish Pub in Pozzuoli, close to Naples, that is very small, but serves food as well. Bottom line, there is no rules on what different places will have. Some serve food, some don'tRistopub - These places will serve a wider selection of food, and have all sorts of different drinks as well. Some have dance floors, karaoke,...

Cover Prices

by watsarahsaid

the nightlife in florence is really fun. the only thing you have to watch out for is the cover charge. as you can see from my map i want to go to more places then ive been so im not sure how it works in other places but in florence you are given a ticket stub upon entrance. the stub costs anywhere from 5 to 10 euros. when you leave the nightclub you have to show the stub. if you lose the stub you may have to pay. i had some friends of mine lose their stubs and they had to pay about 30 euro to leave. like i said im not sure if this is regular or not but be aware when you enter nightclubs. they like to get as much money from unsuspecting tourists as possible. unless you really like getting harassed by a whole bunch of men dont wear anything TOO scandalous. you can wear whatever you like just be prepared to get harassed a bit by the men.

The Old Stove: Great after hours Pub

by BaciFirenze

Great little late night pub....sit outside, great people watching in the middle of the night! Off the beaten path, but smack in the middle of the central storico of Florence. Ask around and someone will direct you there...down a little alleyway casual

Anywhere: Nightly walks

by motorcitykitty

Wow, Rome, I had to keep pinching myself. I'm really here. People watching is a sport here. Grab a table and Cafe and watch the people go by (worth the cost of sitting at a table) Even when it was cold or rainy there were people outside. I feel You should dress up when going out for the evening. The Italians dress very nicely. And how those chicks walk around with heels on is beyond Me.

All cities and towns: Passagiato

by JBourne

This is the practice of walking around at night in your finest clothes admiring and being admired. It is commonplace in Italy to walk around the centre of town in the evening, maybe having a coffee, icecream or glass of wine. Whole families do this and the local shops all stay open late as well - often after 10pm. This takes advantage of the cooler evenings as usually from 1-5pm most shops close and people retreat to their houses to escape the heat. Even when it isn't hot, passagiato is still practiced. Dress smartly, everyone else will be.

Eating and Drinking

by Willettsworld

Most Italians spend there night-times socialising by eating and drinking. When I was walking around at night there didn't seem to be anything much else to do but go to a restaurant and eat and drink! Then it was nice just to walk around a bit more to work off some of the food! It's nice to walk around and visit the same places you visited during the day again as they are quieter and also appear different when they are lit up.

Drinking tradition

by dr.firas

Drinking is a tradition in the meetingsthere are also special VT members who has this reputation of big drinkers!like IngaA!!!however piccolina also likes to show this passion for drinking but as I always say she is moderated, and not every reputation is justificated :-)))anyway, she was the queen of the party so I don't care if she really drinks a lot or not, actually she was driving that night, and I was the drunk one, despite the Russian vodka during the 6 years that made incresses my tolerance to alcohol :-))

Cafe La Torre: Step into local life in Florence

by Kulprit

Cafe La Torre in Florence is a real gem in itself but an absolute must each Friday night. On the opposite side of the Arno than Gli Uffizi two bridges out of the immediate centre, the cafe bar is off the beaten tourist track. A large outdoor area caters for forty people or so with further seating indoors. Between 7pm and 9pm each Friday night the place is thronged with locals who avail of the special offer. One sits and orders a cocktail or 'aperitivo' from the extensive cocktail list at about €10. This may seem a little steep but the up side is that great dishes of fab Italian food starts to arrive to a buffet table and punters are free to help themselves. Apart from the great food, the fact that the cafe attracts mainly local people is a big bonus. You can sit back and get a real feel for how Italians socialise. Smart Casual in the evenings
