We both took 2 carry-on luggages ONLY! Believe me! you can pack all the necessaries things leaving even space for your souvenirs:1.Sometimes the “travel size” products are bigger than what you need! So it’s better to buy a carry-on container travel kid in Wal-Mart. It comes with at least 20 containers and it works great!2. if you flat down Shirts and pants into squares you will be fine!3.About the shoes: I am sure you have heard many VT advises letting you know how important is to have 2 pair of comfortable shoes!. IT IS TRUE!!! I am a girly girl that could walk in high hills for hours so I though (mistakenly) I could do the same in Italy WRONG!! Unfortunately if you really want to see the city you are forced to wear sneakers and very bad looking sandals…otherwise be prepare to have many blisters and a lot of pain!!!!

A good bag!

by FinElina

Take baggage or a bag that don't weigh too much. Its very possible to have to walk because of strikes (lo sciopero) in traffic (very usual in Italy). So you have to have a comfortable bag to carry! The heat is another problem especially in summer so you probably don't want to suffer and sweat if carrying an uncomfortable bag! Take clothes on weather, good, comfortable shoes for walking. Sun cream! Just take lots of film and a good camera with you!

Mozzie repellent

by JBourne

Of course you can buy it in Italy but you'll need it as soon as dusk sets in on your first night, and probably before then too. Its not only the mozzies as well, there are other biting insects that need repelling. A good insect repellent should work for all of them. Oh and make sure you spray it in the bed too!

Pack light if you can!!!

by JOG1151

We had 1 large suitcase and 1 carry on each...of course if you can pack lighter, do so, as you will be lugging your bags through the streets, to and from the train stations ,and through the train stations. Bring at least one very good pair of walking shoes, you will be walking and on your feet constantly, on hot, crowded, cobblestone streets. Don't worry about style, comfort is optimum for all the walking you will be doing. I went to a specialty store beforehand (The Walking Company). They will fit you with a walking shoe suited for your foot shape...considering the amount of walking we did, it was worth every penny. I wore my Mephistos for touring, and was grateful I did. Dress for comfort...most of the women were either in shorts, Capri's, with tee shirts or sleeveless tops, also skirts and sundresses. The teenagers wore everything and anything, including jeans. The men wore either...

Electricity converter

by LadyXoc

Pack an electrical adapter. The voltage in Italy is 220-230. If you are coming from the States where ours is 120 you will find you need to convert the electricity and adapt the plugs. I learned the hard way in Morrocco that just because you can plug your American curling iron in doesn't mean you should use it. My hair burned right off. A good website to show you what the voltage is for foreign countries and what tye of plugs you can use is http://www.yung-li.com.tw/EN/info/ww_specifications.htm#topAnd don't be surprised if you have to wiggle, jiggle, prop, and otherwise adjust your converter to get it to work. See attached picture. One millimeter to the left or right and my hair dryer did not work.

All this Luggage.......

by Kandise

Make sure you take things that can be mixed and matched with one another........and make sure it's linen! (LOL) Almost everyone in Italy wears linen, everywhere. Oh, and if your traveling to the Vatican make sure to wear clothing that cover. If you are wearing a tank top, halter top, or camisole-ladies bring along a cartigan or sweater and men bring a jacket to cover up because if you don't they may not allow you inside. Don't pack too many clothes. On my first trip to Italy we had so much luggage, it was ridiculous. When most people travel through Italy they don't just visit one city, they visit many so it's much easier to lug around one piece of luggage than 3 or 4. I found that Italy had some wonderful quality clothing and not all of it is expensive. So if you forgot to pack something you can pick it up at a local store. Wear comfortable shoes! Bring lots of film or a memory card...
