Packing List

by croisbeauty

I suggest you not to take too many clothes with. There are so many stores where you can buy cheap garments appropriate for traveling around: Mella Blu, De Bernardi, D&M, Emporio (not Armani) etc. This department stores you can find in the vicinity of the towns, mostly on the state roads. Be practical, don't spend your many by paying overweight. Another option to buy cheap clothes are the sales (saldi), starting from the first half of July. In case you want to buy designed clothes and not spending too much money, search for "Sorelle Ramonda" department store in Bussolengo (near Lake Garda), Gallarate (near Varese), Alte Checcato (near Vicenza). If you're arriving on the airport of Bergamo there is an outlet shopping centre, right opposite to the airport.

Don't forget your camera!

by kazander

Nothing TOO big. Some of the hotel elevators are tiny, You will want something manageable Definately some good walking shoes for exploring as much as possible Bring your usual daily routine, you may not be able to find everything you use depending on where you are More than you think you'll need! Lots of film and or media cards, lots of lenses with different focal lenghts, filters..ect. I likr to bring both an SLR and a little digital point and shoot, for the more casual times when you want memories, but not a big fuss. i.e. having dinner, or going out for drinks.

Packing to Rome

by dr.firas

Don't forget to pack your camera with loads of films, and the digital one with enough memory, there is no other place on Earth like Rome that will automatically force you to take tons of photos, and don't forget your umbrella!

Dress for churches and walking

by trvlhke

You will have to carry all of your bags at least some distance even if you take a taxi so try for things that roll and not too heavy. Anywhere you go there will be steps of some type.Keep your day pack smaller since most shops are packed and you don't want to knock over any expensive statues. Bring comfortable shoes for walking and conservative clothes for day touring. Some churches will not allow shorts, tank tops or skirts that are too short. Ladies, if you have a comfy skirt or dress wear that. If it's the middle of the summer and you really want to wear a tank top, invest in a large, lightweight scarf that you can tie around your shoulders when in the church. Guys, some places allow shorts, but be prepared to be denied entry. The usual, nothing extravegant. Most hotels have hair dryers. If you're like using a wash cloth or loofa when you shower, you'll have to bring your own. If...

Take a map

by dr.firas

Well I was most lucky to have such a gorgeous company Sara and Marco, and Marco was a charming guide, Sara and Marco were explaining everything in details, but without Marco and the map that he bought we would be lost 100 you'd better buy yourself a map of Venice once you get to the city, it is so important!

Take to Pisa

by dr.firas

You shall absolutely take your camera and loads of films to them, and very important , take sandwiches from Rome with you in the train, as there is no restaurant wagon in the Train to Pisa, and if you have no Chiara *Pollon* to take care of you, you'll be sorry and so hungry :-)

No high heals please!

by dr.firas

To Venice you have to pack a special list, the fact that you'll have no transportation makes the sportive shoes absolutely necessary, and for sure no way to think of high heals when you are a female, you'll only suffer from that!

Fight the heat!

by miedje

Don't go on a city trip in a mediterranean country in summer! Well, that's a nice tip, but most of us can only go on vacation during the summerholidays. Therefore this list to cope with the heat. What you should take with you:- a fan, it's elegant, not heavy and indispensable- little bottles to fill with water, take them with you, you can't stay on the terrace all day and buying small bottles in town is expensive- some bottle of water with which you can sprinkle water, like you would use for your plants at home, when your getting to hot, you can sprinkle water in you faceAnd when nothing helps.. Just put your feet in a fountain. there are enough of them in mediterranean countries!

My booktip for Italy 2

by miedje

My second bookrecommendation is an Italian book which has been translated in many languages and there's even a movie made of the story. Umberto Eco - Il nome della rosa (The name of the rose). The story is about a monastry in Northern Italy in the fourteenth century, where one after one men are found dead under strange circumtances. The franciscan monc, William of Baskerville, former inquisitor will try to find out what's going on. That is very impotant, because the monastry will house a meeting between a delegation of the pope and the leaders of the franciscans who are having a religious disagreement. In seven days, the whole story unfolds itself. It's wonderful to read: an alternative detective, a story of history, a story of truth, wisdom and religion.

My booktip for Italy

by miedje

I'm still thinking about good booktips for Italy. Since it's my favorite country, I should have something to say about it. However most of my Italy-booktips are listed at the specific Italian cities. Therefore I know only one a few books here. The first one is a Dutch one, so the audience will be very limited. Sorry for that. For the Dutch reader:Rosita Steenbeek - SchimmenrijkA beautiful book about a Dutch woman living in Rome. Her lover (an archeologist) dies under suspect circumstances. Everyone says it's suicide, but she doesn't believe it. Therefore she's traveling through the Lazio of the Etruscans: the Lazio of her lover. Beside that there is the story about her former Dutch roommate who suffers bad luck in love, and after that, a terrible disease. It's really wonderful to read, when you're in Lazio, or any other place in Italy. I highly recommend it!The second book is listed in...
