Depends On Your Own Travels...

by coceng

It is depends very much on your travel in one country how you wanna carry your luggage ! Travel light is great ! Travel alone is even better...easy to make decision. Get the trolley luggage where you can drag along as opposed to carry it on your back or carry it hanging on your hand...Also a small backpack for you to walk around with... Comfortable shoes, definitely ! Light clothes, maybe some clothes for the unpredictable weathers... Bring sufficiently...as we can almost get them in big towns & cities... Oh Yes ! Although buying films in foreign countries might be too expensive for your budget, get them from home is a good idea...even the batteries too. If you want to do lots of hikings...a good map should be most important & also other outdoor gears which you might have been prepared before setting off your journey... No Money No Talk...

Just the one bag will do ... because all those summerclothes can be rolled up and tugged in ... one doesn t need much clothing however do not forget to bring ample sun bathing lotion and after sun lotion! Also, do bring a good backpack to stuff your photo stuff in ... less obvious for thieves and good protection against sun and sand. Just your tiny yellow polkadot bikini ... or whatever it is you wear at the beach or pool. When staying at the lake Garda it might be wise to be prepared for a hailstorm .... they do happen you know.

Shoes as fashionable and comfortable as can be!!!

by Traveler0106

Small small lugguage...you'll only end up hating yourself later when you are struggling up and down subway stairs...best wheels (if they exist) are rubber ones like bicycles tires... and of course if you have another duffel bags secure it to the luggage bar so you only pull one thing....DO NOT BRING A PURSE...only takes and makes for a good target if I don't want to look like a tourist with a camera attached to me a take a small shopping bag...I also keep a "decoy" small wallet in there with some change that's easy to get to so I don't have to take my "Main" stash from my purse.Maps, Maps & more maps, research train schedules, what time stores close open and take their afternoon break. A little trick to save space and make extra room in your luggage...bring old clothes that you were considering discarding...I took 7 pairs of older underwear and discarded a pair a day...coming home with...

Travel light if visiting in the height of summer.

If you are going to have a base, and can leave things safely while travelling around, you could virtually take as many bags as you could afford to transport there.....BUT.....this might limit what you purchase while in Italy and that would be a shame, I think. You are going to see things that you would like to buy and take home -- so I would bring the bare minimum, and buy a bag there to come home with all of my goodies. On the other hand, if you are going to be back-packing, and therefore often having to carry everything with you or having to leave your goods on a daily basis relatively unattended it still makes sense to me to travel light. It is not like you are not going to be able to purchase anything that you need -- If doing a lot of walking, of course you will need the very best of comfortable walking shoes. As for clothing, I go for layering ie mix and match gear that you can add...

Bring good shoes

by dambrosi

Any comfortably large suitcase, preferably one with wheels, pack light going, with the anticipation of filling your suitcase with goodies on the return home. In northern Italy you'll want to pack some long pants and a few warm sweaters for the summer, even though it's warm the mountains can get cold. If you're from America bring a small medicine kit with some over the counter drugs, Italian pharmaceuticals are not reguklated the same way as you may be used to. Lots of film is a must as there will be lots to see and many photogenic areas. Bring suntan lotion and an open mind, nudity is a big thing in Europe.

Be prepared for rain in the spring

by Goner

I use my faithful bag on wheels and a small knapsack on wheels which works perfectly for me. We were in Italy the last week in March and first week in April and we did have some rain. I think a trip is more enjoyable if you're prepared for inclimate weather. I just discovered these little packages you can buy that you tear open, inside is a soapy pad you can use in place of a washcloth -- most hotels do not provide washcloths. These packages can be purchased at a drugstore in the US. Take plenty of film, very expensive to buy there. Do take a waterproof windbreaker, for warmth you can add a sweater or another jacket underneath, layer as needed. I started getting a cold and went into a pharmacy for some cold pills. The pharmacist was so patient as I used my sign language to show him what I needed. Cold medicine is usually under the counter, so you will have to ask for it.

anything will do as long as you have space to fit more into it. Comfortable but stylish. Do not wear t-shirts and jeans or shrts. Italians find that offensive. Casual is fine just as long as you don't look like a slob. I reccomed nice slacks and a button down shirt with comfortable leather shoes. You can get anything here. In the tourist areas you can find any film you might need. There are plenty of Kodak specific stores Don't know Make sure you bring a voltage adaptor for you laptop. They aren't easy to find.

Food and Drink Italian food is among the richest, most flavorful and varied cuisines in the world -and is typified by the lrge number of courses at lunch and dinner. It is considered impolite to refuse a course, even though there may be 12 courses for dinner(the trick is to eat only a little of each course). In contrast to lunch and dinner, breakfast consists only of bread and coffee. Dinners are lengthy and are served late in the evening. They usually begin with a pasta course, a meat , fish or poultry as main course and a dessert or dark coffee(expresso). Italian wines are excellent, especially the red wines from Peimonte or Tuscany.

A good suitcase and a backpack if you plan to travel a lot between different places. And a bag with space for lots of films as you'll click the camera more often than you'd ever immagine! Good footwear as you'll walk a lot. And a sweater or scarf for covering shoulders when entering the churches. Also some goodlooking clothes for the evening as Italians really are a fashionable people and it's nicer to try and blend in than receiving infidel glances or overberaring smiles... Finally, clothes that fit the weather - remember that the mountains can be cold, and if visitting Etna, the vulcano in Sicily, that the place has snow even during summer when it's more than extremely hot in the rest of Sicily! I found medicine slightly expensice in Italy. So next time I'll make sure I have every thing I think I'll need in my luggage. Water is a must as it can be really hot and humid, but since...
