Backpack or suitcase (when staying in hotels). Dress lightly in summer, but bring a sweater and some trousers along for in the evening -it cools off a bit at that time. Bring along suncream and anti-mosquito cream / spray.Bring along some anti-diarhoea pills too, you will never know how your stomach reacts on olive oil the Italians use at every meal ;o) You can get good film here, don't buy film that has been laying in the sun. You can camp at small villages, usually at the eastcoast there's a lot of camping possible.

Less is always more. There are places to do laundry in every major city - take advantage of them and lighten the load in your luggage. And if you go nuts with souvineers, try to ship things home. Comfortable walking shoes are a must. You'll thank me later. Absolutely do not forget to bring your camera. And pack plenty of film in your carry on bag - NOT in your checked bags. The XRay machines for luggage headed to cargo will ruin your film.

Normal luggage will be fine, but remember, you may have to tote stuff around on trains, which can be crowded. Bring locks for all bags, and a small cable lock may come in handy on the train. Bring a small backpack...Don't plan on finding Ice for sale in Italy. It's very rare to find. Hotels may put the refreezable (Blue ice) packs in their freezers for you though. Definitely a plus for the hotel room, where most won't have a fridge. Can be drastically different from north to south. Northern winters include snow at times, while the south tends to just rain more. Rain storms are common throughout the year, and there is often thick fog in the lowlying flat areas. Women, bring extra nylons, as you may not find your particular type here. Clothing sizes run differently than ours. All shoes are european sizes. Here's some examples from my own stats9.5 US shoes = 42 in Italy.29x32 Pants = 46...

Pack light, only take what you need and know you'll use. Trust me, if you go with a group you do not want to be lugging huge suitcases over cobblestone sidewalks to your hotel. The large group buses don't fit down some of the street so you can have a block walk to your hotel. If traveling on your own or as a couple, use a local taxi or limo and you'll have door to door service. :) Okay Florence is gorgeous but do you really want blistered tired feet at the end of the day? Wear comfortable shoes, not fashionable shoes. There's lots to see and walking is a great option. You'll also want to wear clothes appropriate to that time of year and day. If you find you've forgotten your jacket and it turns cold, then don't fret, Italy is a perfect place to buy a new one. Pleanty of shopping. Bandaids, alchohol pads, medicated ointment. Just pack a few of the basics in case of a small cut, blisters...

Wear comfy shoes, as parts of Rome still have the old cobblestone streets, and can be uneven and quite rough on your aching footsies! **White tennis shoes and a fanny pack pretty much GUARANTEE you will be recognized as an American tourist, so be forewarned!!** FOR TRAVELLERS OF THE FEMALE VARIETY:: If travelling in Rome in the hotter summer months, and you plan on visiting the Vatican-- make SURE you have a pullover or something with longer sleeves, just in case, as I've seen women with sleeveless tops get turned away. (I think its viewed as disrespectful.)

All of Italy, unlike London, is much warmer. Only Venice and Milan can get a little chilly at night. You can pack up a 21' to 22' backpack, or rolling pack, quite effortlessly and be well prepared to have a great time. Italy musts, walking shoes (that can go from casual to out and about), shower sandals, tennis shoes, and dress sandals. If you are to take a coat, take a versatile lightweight one, also, the couple of days I was in Italy this past summer it rained a couple of times. Make sure your clothing is both comfortable but presntable, dark clothing is best when balancing and mix and matching a traveling wardrobe. Have skirt handy, a dress, some jeans, slacks, plenty of short sleeve tops, and a nice dressy long sleeve shirt that you can wear with either jeans, slacks, or the skirt.

ShoppingAlthough normally shops are open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3:30/4 p.m. to 7:30/ 8 p.m., in large cities and tourist areas there is a tendency to stay open from 9.30 a.m to 7.30 p.m. with possible variations from town to town. Department stores such as La Rinascente, Coin, Upim are found in many Italian cities and towns and are open from 9.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. Some excellent purchase options are: Clothes for men and women (dresses, shoes, gloves, silk ties, shirts); lacework, jewelry, leather goods (handbags, cases, boxes, luggage), ceramics, gold and silver items, alabaster, woodwork, straw, embroidery, glass and crystal ware. Laundry and Dry CleanersMost hotels have laundry and dry cleaning facilities. If the hotel does not provide these services, the desk clerk can direct you to the nearest shop ( tintoria ) or you can look in the Classified Telephone directory under...

Carry whatever luggage you need but have a bag or backpack that is big enough for your camera, sovineers, sweatshirt, etc. but not too big as to be in the way. Walking shoes are a must. The cobble stone streets will tire your feet quickly. Anything else is personal choice. I took a 35mm camera. Be advised that everything going into St Peters may have to go through an X-Ray. It did when I was there. Could cause film trouble. WATER!!!

don't take too much stuff!!! you'll never use half of it and carrying it around is literally a pain in the backside it is so warm in the summer you could virtually go around naked, but light clothes are a must! deodorant and talcum powder, you will really sweat!! a camera is defenietly a must for the cities

Well, with all those sights you just have to take lots of film!!! I would suggest packing at least two cameras, especially in summer. No, it's not that in summer they break down more quickly:))) It is just that you should put different films in them. One should be charged with ISO 200 film - the weather is almost always sunny, so it would be a right idea. And the other is to have ISO 400 (or, even better, ISO 800) film so that you would get good photos inside the Cathedrals and other monuments (or at night) when can not or do not wish to use flash. As for availability, all the photo supplies you might possibly need can be found easily in Italy. ATMs and Plastic money: they are the most convenient way to take your money abroad. You get lots of benefits and (almost!!) no problems. You'll get lower exchange rate than if you were to exchane your cash, and you will pay lower commissions...
