A nice spacious bag is essential with plenty of room for layers of clothing and ski wear. If you are on a skiing trip you can either buy the ski equipment yourself (Which can work out extremely expensive!) or hire it. When packing, do not overload on sweaters and heavy clothing. Bring plenty of layers which are better for insulation and if you get too hot from skiing it is easy to remove some. Also bring some good shoes for walking in the snow, and be prepared for all weather. Bring a high-factor sun cream. Many people forget this when skiing and don't realise just how strong the sun can be in the mountains! Bring a good camera that can survive the cold!

Dress VERY well. Italians do too. Even if they wear only a T-shirt and shorts, they look as if they just came out of a fashion journal. And they recognize tourists and foreigners of their lack of style. So if you don't want to look like a tourist, dress as they do. There are parts of Italy where this good sense of style often crosses the thin red line to snobbery (e.g. Parma).

Summer weather is typically in the 80 to 90 degree so dress lightly. And the winter months dipping into the 30’s at night. Winter daytime temperatures range from 40 to 50 degrees. Rain is the norm during the winter months. So dress warm and bring the rain coat.

the climat is quite warm there. But when we went in sptember it was really hot +33C, when we went up to Etna - the temperature went down to +12C and it was raining! So, its always good to have a bit of everything..

Driving without air conditioning was quite difficult the weather at this time of year is very hot certainly to be in a car. To help combat this we bought a frigobox (cool box that runs off of the cigarette lighter socket) cost uk - 50.00GBP can be bought in large chains or petrol stations in Italy en-route.

Be a Traveler and not a Tourist - A Tourist is one that expects everything to be the way it is back home, and a Traveler accepts the challenges faced during travel which makes each country that he or she has traveled unique.

Bring something durable since they are hell on bags there. Also, plan on rain from time to time so you will want to have your bags waterproof or at least resistant. Dress in layers. Mornings can be cool and overcast but the days warm nicely where we were there in May the weather is very much like Californina in the summer. Some churches prefer you do not wear shorts in church but we had no problems with this. Comfortable shoes are a must. If you have a rain proof jacket, its preferable over carrying an umbrella but you can buy one cheap around Naples if you need one. Also, spoil yourself with some foot lotion or something to treat your feet after a long days walking. My wife was glad she brought toilet seat covers even thought I gave her a hard time, I could see where she was happy she brought them. A digital camera is so nice to have. If you cant afford one just yet, bring disposable...

This goes for most of Europe, but Italians dress well. They don't wear, for the most part, frayed jeans, shorts, or Hawaiian shirts. You don't have to be ashamed of being a tourist and try to fit in--after all, we've all been tourists--but I hate seeing tourists in shorts and fanny packs. That's all I'll say.
